PAAK not unlocking doors about 50% of the time?

I've noticed if I touch the door with just my phone on hand, truck may or may not sense. Then opening FordPass is enough to authenticate and let me in.

Since that's the most reliable step, I usually load up the Ford Pass app before touching the door handles if I'm relying on PAAK.

I get intermittent results, but I've always blamed the door handles on the truck. My phone works perfectly on a Tesla.

The door handle touch sensitivity concept is a very good one, but truly poor in theory.

Make of it what you want and yeah, it's just a little crazy, but if you just touch your fingers to your tongue and get them damp - you'll have better success. I think its about dry skin and little conductivity on the handle pad.

So dampen your hands a bit, however you choose, and see if you get better results.
That seems odd. My door handle touch sensors work even with heavy winter gloves and it works 100%. (Always fob in pocket... no PAAK on my XLT).

With locking, you do have to wait a short time, maybe 1 second, after closing the door. I lock with the back of my fingers against the handle.

Given how rock solid reliable it is with the factory fob, I'm more inclined to suspect communication issues with the phone rather than any physical incantations you perform with your hands.

I have to agree. I’m on iPhone 16 with latest iOS and my PAAK is really starting to degrade. And WAL needs work as well. Sometimes the truck locks right as I walk away other times it might not lock for almost a minute and or until I get really far away. Ford really needs to work on this software.

I've only had my 24 Platinum for a few months now, but I did notice that touch to lock seemed to stop working once I setup PaaK and walk away locking. I assumed it was one or the other type feature. Not sure why. However, I do distinctly recall noticing that was when it stopped and it worked flawlessly before that (for the few days before I setup PaaK).

I've never had a reliability issue with unlocking with PaaK (latest iphone). I was careful to enable the requirements it requested for PaaK, such as full time access to location data which I almost never allow normally.

The other thing I did, which is not listed as a requirement, was to create a Ford Pass widget. I wonder if that helps keep the process in the foreground.

sometimes i have to touch the phone to "wake" it but rarely. Ford i believe does say you need to have the phone in hand but mine usually is in my pocket.

Sometime I have to hold my hand in the handle a few seconds for it to unlock. Sometimes I have to open the app again.

For locking if I count to 3 after shutting the door then touch the sensor it will lock every time.

Handle success, lock or unlock, seems totally unrelated to PAAK for me. Handles are always a 50/50 proposition in my experience.

PAAK with iPhone 12 then 16 on the other hand works 99% of the time for me. Very occasionally a FordPass reboot is needed but otherwise my PAAK experience is very good.

Only a few days in, but honestly, this is working perfectly. I've noticed (since your reply) that on rainy days, it works fine. On dry days, this time has helped when it didn't open.

Other experiencing this problem, give this a try! Hopefully it keeps working.

My walk away lock mysteriously started to work again, but my touch to unlock/lock is still gone 🤷🏾‍♂️

Dang this truck is troubling. Just as soon as I noted sometimes your hand needs to be damp - I was in the rain in Norman, OK yesterday and TWICE I had to use my app to even get the truck to unlock. It wouldn't recognize my hand and BT/phone combination for anything - and those handles couldn't have gotten any wetter.

I'll only note I am running a test version of the app, so I'll made a report, but I don't truly know why this isn't more consistent. I'm hoping it was just this test version.

Like I have said before, it works 100% with the fob even using heavy gloves in winter. Couldn't be any drier. I think the communication issue is between the phone and the truck, not your hand and the truck.

Unless the PAAK trucks use completely different door handle technology from the XLT.

I have had my truck for two years and have used PAAK for nearly the entire time. It had worked fairly well, until the last few weeks. It nearly always gets me a No Key Detected when trying to start the truck. After a few retry’s it generally works. This is a pain in the butt!!

I am of the believe something has changed to cause the phone not to connect quickly. What I don’t know is a truck thing or iPhone or an IOS 18.4.1.
