The FOB is tiny enough that it doesn’t bother me in my pocket so I use it.

Having experienced Ford’s IT with its irregular updates makes be cautious about relying on a server in Detroit to access my truck.
Ford does not rely on servers for PAAK. It is a local Bluetooth technology. FordPass functions like Climate control and SOC status use the Ford servers but not door/key type access.

My first Lightning that I had for two years, I always had the FOB since my PAAK didn’t work at setup. I traded it in for the 0% APR offers and this Lightning I only use PAAK since I feel it’s safer than leaving my FOB in the center console. I understand everyone’s concerns with the PAAK not working but the passcode seems to work just as fine if the phone isn’t working.

My wife and I both use PAAK now for almost 3 years on our MME and Lightning. In the first 6-8 months or so, there were a couple of updates that would leave us frustratedly hanging for about 15 minutes. It has been uneventfully reliable for nearly 2 years.
That said, I use PAAK for local travel, but I never leave town without a keyfob. I keep a keyfob in my travel bag with the battery installed backwards so it isn't active, but it is there just in case. I haven't needed it yet, however, it did come in handy when I wanted to lend my truck to my son, ad-hoc for an errand.

Oh wow. I never thought of having the fob in the car but without the battery properly installed. That’s a great idea!

I have a Flash so PAAK is not an option for me. It is one of the things that I would have gotten with a Lariat, but had no interest in it (along with a couple things I specifically did not want). Therefore, the fob it is for me. It sits in the bottom of my pocket where I almost never need to touch it. About the only time it comes out of the pocket is if I want to lower the tailgate without opening the truck. Normally I just unlock by touching the inside of the door handle. Lock when I'm getting out of the truck via the inside lock button unless I need to get stuff out of the back seat and then I'll use the lock button on the door handle. I have never used the door keypad. As far as main controls of the truck via FordPass, I somewhat regularly start climate control, and once in a while when I can't remember if I locked the truck, I will send a lock command.
With my prior trucks, I carried a spare key in the thigh pocket of my cargo pants. Now I have the second fob there. No one else drives my truck.

What didn’t you want from the Lariat when you decided on the Flash. Just curious.

I find the modern fob small and unobtrusive, especially when compared to the mechanical car keys of yore that would invariably tear out the bottom of my suit and dress pants' pockets bottoms over time.

I also do not (gasp!) always carry my phone with me, as I do not desire to become a tethered screen appendage. Therefore, no PAAK for me.

There is a hidden, tethered steel-box-locked fob nested in a sealed Faraday bag somewhere in my truck, as a secondary insurance.

I wouldn't leave it in the truck. It won't work but if someone finds out you have it in the truck, a quick smash and they are driving away. I leave it in my travel bag so it is only in the truck during transit or charge stops, not daily.

The main one was the sunroof. Besides sunroofs leaking (generic, not Ford specific), it takes away too much space for radio antennas. My prior truck had nine antennas on the cab roof. The lightning will likely have four or five (I think). Two way radio is both my profession and my hobby.

Oh got it. I’ve never had any issues with the sunroof. I honestly think it’s really well built. I thought there was an option to not have a sunroof on the Lariat but if you absolutely don’t want it, then the Flash makes sense. The sunroof also provides more headspace which I like.

In my experience with my former Mach E Premium, the pano roof tends to bleed out a significant amount of lower-wavelength infrared radiation, i.e. cabin heat, when driving during freezing Winter months in cold climates like the high Rockies of Colorado, northern New England and the Upper Midwest.

Of course, EV cabin heat in really cold weather is generated from traction battery power to heat cabin air, and thus reliably decreases available range in such conditions.

I tend to travel all over the US, so that Mach E experience convinced me to never again have a pano / sunroof on an EV.

I carry keys for things like the front door, shed locks, etc. so adding the FOB to the carabiner was no big deal.

When I used to wear suits to work (Patent Law Firm) keys would cut holes in my pockets unless I wrapped them in a handkerchief, so I started using a carabiner for keys. After a while, suit belt loops sometimes fail though (not made for hanging stuff on it seems).

In my work at home khakis or jeans no problem with belt loop rips.

Also, prefer not to have radio wave transmitting devices next to the family jewels (phones or FOB in the pocket).

I keep the FOB in an aluminum foil radio signal blocker at home in case FOB cloners roam the neighborhood (a suburb of DC) which happened to a neighbor a few years ago. Yes aluminum foil is an effective radio signal blocker (or reflector to direct wifi signals for instance) - I am an electrical engineer and have tested it, so please no quibbling about that. Also keep aluminum foil in my wallet to block the RFID CC use nowadays. (No I don't wear a tin foil hat, but I have considered it. I do use hands free with cell phone, portable phone, tablets etc. I like my DNA just as it is.)

Definition: A carabiner or karabiner (/ˌkærəˈbiːnər/),[1] often shortened to biner or to crab, colloquially known as a (climbing) clip, is a specialized type of shackle, a metal loop with a spring-loaded gate[2] used to quickly and reversibly connect components, most notably in safety-critical systems. The word comes from the German Karabiner, short for Karabinerhaken, meaning "carbine hook,"[3] as the device was used by carabiniers to attach their carbines to their belts.

I use my phone 90% of the time ,but when I go to new places or travel I take my key fob and the reason being is because I went camping at lake Hemet and realized my phone had no service truck wouldn't open so I used the door code ok then had two used the code on the screen to start and found out the hard way that only works if there's phone service ok now I'm stranded, my wife let me panic for about 20 min or so before she pulled out the spare fob she put in her purse for emergencies.

Primary: I use the keypad to unlock the front door and/or Laundry room door
2nd I use the hidden key on the shed to unlock the either front or Laundry room door.
I was looking in the shed and I didn't find the hidden key. Where is it?

I don't remember exactly, but the best as I could recall, it's under one of the several loaded Rat Traps or Rat bait stations. Be careful when you attempt to retrieve it. The snakes may not like you messing with their lunch snacks ;)
