On our Lightnings, the various telltales are the very bottom row of small colored icons on the IPC screen... i.e. high beams (blue), glare-free headlights (green), low 12V battery (red), etc. etc.

In indicator that it is on/off/activated. Could be as I described, on the switch, but could be anywhere as in your reply. Thanks to you both!

The guy who can't see you ahead in thick fog is the guy who'll run into you, sometimes at a significant speed.

Many horrific sequential crashes on high speed highways around the world testify to this. There was a really bad one in Louisiana several years ago. I remember several ones in Germany.

Yep. And it is a really helpless feeling when you have to stop on the road either because of fog or more likely because others stopped or had an accident on the road ahead of you. Brake lights and flashers aren't that easy to see and the fear of getting rear ended is there.

An issue with visibility in fog is the distance of the driver above the headlights. Semi trucks have a lot of distance and they don't get blinded by your own headlight glare in the fog or in a snow blizzard. So they are driving along like maniacs while someone in a Prius or similar car is sitting just above their headlights and so they get blinded and stop often times in the road cause they can't even see the ditches. Sometimes I've found it easier to drive with just park lights on or fog lamps if I have them. Another thing about fog is often it is just a thin cloud layer above the ground and pickups and semi trucks can see right over it but at the same time you can drive into a low spot or a different altitude and be completely engulfed in a fog bank.

Yes. If someone behind you can see your red fog light, they’ll know you’re there and hopefully increase their following distance.

Europe mandates them. I miss using them - It’s a smart idea.
