New tire recommendation for 23 Lightning Lariat - Range and Noise higher priority

I went from the Hankook AT2s to the Hankook ion HTs earlier this year. They are as quite as the originals, maybe a little quieter. I have many thousands of miles on them now and they show no wear compared to the original OEMs which showed wear very quickly... Now m/KWh based on all measurements and observations is a little less, .2 documented on some longer trips and observed. So on long drives noticeable but not a big concern like I had in late 22 early 23 when there were so few DCFS stations... I got a great deal on them and am very happy especially if I get even close to the rated life out of them.

I found some new Hankook Dynapro AT2 takeoffs on FB marketplace for $400 total. Installation will be $140, so $540 all in for new OEM tires isn't too shabby I think.

I bought a used tire on EBay. Had same tread as rest of my tires and wasn’t wanting to pay for a set yet as I just had to replace one. It looked good and cheap. Fast forward 6 months… one of my tires now has a swelled area. Not quite a bubble but it is causing vibration so quite risky. I am 75% sure it’s the tire I replaced. It’s not in same location since I had a rotation done since this is why I am not 100% sure.

disappointed in myself for being cheap. Not buying used again. Regardless please keep a close eye on your tires. Stick to regular rotation and inspections. Very dangerous if a tire fails.
I now have Michelins Defenders on order from Costco and I am forced to drive my old car until they come in… sigh….

My 23 Lariat came with the general grabber hts and they were great for everything you mention..

Me too but at 40k miles they were shot even with regular rotation. I need new tires right now and was thinking about the Michelin defenders

My truck came with the Goodyear Wrangler Territory HT and they are a good all around tire. Quiet, good traction in wet and snow, with decent rolling resistance. They are also one of the cheapest options for the Lightning.

My 24 Flash came with the Goodyear Wrangler Territory HT. My recommendation is AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! This pains me a bit as I have historically been a fan of Goodyear tires.

I have 23,500 miles on the truck and have replaced one, will need to replace two this week (including one that was already replaced), and still have one with a plug in it that is holding so far. Very easily damaged tire. I am planning on the Toyo Open Country AT3 (debating on the EV version or not). In my case I really do need a fairly serious off-road tire. I have been having to restrict my off paved road driving because of the crappy tires that the truck came with. I drive to mountain top two way radio sites that sometimes have pretty crappy "roads".

If you’re on California mountain dirt “roads” fairly often, I agree you need an AT vs HT tire. Many of these roads that seem to have been originally paved are now just short of being rock crawls. Most people aren’t probably doing that kind of abuse to their Lightning tires.

If you’re on California mountain dirt “roads” fairly often, I agree you need an AT vs HT tire. Many of these roads that seem to have been originally paved are now just short of being rock crawls. Most people aren’t probably doing that kind of abuse to their Lightning tires.

Most of these roads have never been paved, and yes, some are not far from a rock crawl. It's the whole reason that I have a 4x4 truck.
And yes, I realize most people are not doing the driving I am. Note that when I bought my truck (Feb. 2025), it was the time of year when you take what you can get. I had a hard enough time getting a Lightning at all. I settled for a truck with all season tires knowing I would need to replace them. Multiple damaged tires is forcing me to do it now. I have Toyo Open Country AT3 tires on order and will have them on the truck later this week.

You didn’t specify “off-road”. Research the tire weight and thickness. They’re tough in LT, 9 years on a 4runner - but I wouldn’t know.

They’ll be better on the highway than Toyo’s.

Well I got the first two Toyo Open Country AT III EV tires installed on the front on Friday. Saturday I did a 238 mile drive (all on highway). So far my first reaction is positive. Road noise on the freeway was hardly any different than the original street tires. In fact I commented to my passenger at one point when a jeep type vehicle passed us on how loud his tires were. Did not see enough drop in range to notice. The drive ended up at 2.3 mi/KWH which is pretty "normal".
When dollars allow, I will add the other two.
