I've taken to photographing my display after each trip and before the next trip. June 5th i took photo when i finished a trip and it shows 2808.9 miles on the odometer (also note the trip 1 info), next trip started June 19th and shows 2808.5 miles on ODO.....what is going on?

This feels like a bug with regulatory consequences, right? Can you honestly sign off on your title that the mileage number is correct to your best knowledge when you've posted evidence on the internet of it being wrong (small margin of error, of course, but still...)?

Seriously this is not a trivial thing IMO.

Oddly, it is actually. Tenths of a mile are not even required to be tracked, that's why some displays only show whole numbers. There is a requirement that a certain minimum change must be recorded and that is met still

🤣

Many, many years ago we participated in a road rally scavenger hunt. This required you to drive from point to point, answering riddles at each point, which then yielded the next point. Lowest mileage with right answers wins. I had a Jeep CJ-7. We wore goggles and scarves to get in the mood.

As we realized we had made a mistake, I shifted to R to drive back the odometer, and discovered that yes, the 10ths did go backwards, but the digits did not. So, at best, I could gain 0.9 miles, but then when I went forward, the single digit clicked to the next one, so I actually lost a mile.

CJ-7 you could just reach behind the speedometer and unscrew the cable, no new miles. Simpler times!

Time traveling due to misalignment of the flux capacitor is my guess...

Maybe having a passenger in the truck AND putting the truck into reverse takes 0.4 miles off the mileage.

But seriously...the display module/memory got out of sync with the Power Train module for some reason...

The display instrument panel cluster module (IPC) gets its mileage info from a different computer module (PCM) but if there is a temporary communications glitch or a weak 12v battery (yes the 12v battery is the source of many a glitch like this), then it might revert to a previously stored value which was 0.4 miles more or less.

One would think that at some point it would correct the displayed number to match that in the PCM.

When you turned your truck ON for the next trip, I supposed they re-synced to the true mileage?

I would have expected the true mileage to be more than the out-of-sync mileage though...

By the way, doing a search I see that this has occurred before in Lightnings, back in 2024 someone reported a similar event: (it was on Reddit so I guess the link will not post here):

Went to bed and my odometer was at 1999.0 and when I got in the truck this morning to go to work it was at 1999.5. Somehow a half mile was added to the odometer over night. Anyone else experience something like this? The truck did update to add the Tesla superchargers yesterday, could that have caused a glitch in The Matrix?

In Aug 2025, there was a Facebook Post about a similar thing...

But I can't post that link either, sorry...just googlize it your selves...
