2021 F150 XLT 302a, 2024 Flash 312a
Hi,

Moving over from F150Gen14!

I am selling my 2021 150, and picking up a 2024 Flash. So I am unsure what to clear on both.

For the ICE truck do I just do a Factory reset on the screen and hand it over, (how long does that take, minutes?), do I have to do something on the fordpass app as well?

For the used Flash I suspect I should do a factory reset, and at some point do a 100% charge to update the BMS, and a "driving history" reset?

Thanks in advance for the help, just want to make the transition as easy for the new owner, and myself, smooth and easy as possible.

Any other tips and tricks for a new EV owner are welcomed. I have been reading, searching and YouTubing as much as I can think of.

I assume the Flash is used. If you're buying from a dealer they should have wiped out old owner info. No need to charge to 100% right away. But yes, you can do an EV driving history reset if you're inclined. It will pick up your habits eventually but don't rely on it's range estimate regardless. Highly variable based on weather and speed.

I'm an engineer also so yeah, I get where you're coming from. But just get it and enjoy it! Welcome to the forum.

Thanks!

Yes, used Flash, I edited my post and title to make it clear.

This isn't from a ford dealer, so I don't assume they will do any sort of resets for me. It is at Ford getting a battery diagnostic done, but even then I don't think Ford would do a wipe without asking them to.

Hold the 2 outer Homelink buttons for 10 seconds to erase.

I bought a used Lightning too and had some trouble getting the Blue Oval working. Turns out it was a fleet truck and I had to call the fleet services and send them proof of purchase for them to remove it from that fleet account. It was a bit of a pain and took a few weeks.
Good luck!

Congratulations on making the switch to an EV.

Once you have your Flash, I'd suggest you do a few things.

Check the VIN at the Ford web site for any outstanding recalls or Customer Service Plan (CSP) updates.

Get an OBD scanner and use one of the many diagnostic apps to check things out that you can't see from the outside (maybe you already did that before buying?) - the forum has threads with recommendations about that.

Get a good wall mounted L2 EVSE (Electric Vehicle Service Equipment) as soon as you can. I would not recommend relying on the Ford Mobile Power Cord (FMPC) that comes with the truck except for emergencies - it has a spotty history.

I believe the Flash is limited to 48A charging, so no need to buy an EVSE or wire it up for more than that current rate. For 48A you need a circuit that can handle 60A (breaker and wire) and of course it always best to have a qualified licensed electrician do the work in accordance with local codes.

Also consider using battery maintainer with an AGM mode for the 12v battery, especially if not driving the truck everyday, or if you'd like the 12v battery to last a lot longer than 3 years. The forum has a string of posts about them failing in less than 3 years and how to make using a maintainer easier with an external connection.

When the 12v battery gets weak all sorts of strange obtuse error messages might appear. Over The Air updates (OTAs) may also fail if the battery is too weak.

It might be wise to get an extended warranty for after the 3 year 30k mile one is up (if it is still in effect). Quite a few things that can go wrong that are expensive - a lot of wiring for these computers with wheels we drive, for example.

If this is your first EV, don't freak out with 'range anxiety.' The range number on your dash is a guess, we call it a guesstimate. Do keep track of your miles per kWh. Once you get a feel for how many miles you get per kWh you will be able to plan your trips and charging percentages better.

I find it advantageous to leave the truck locked and running while parked for short periods of time at the store shopping for example - unlike an ICE truck it won't use a lot of energy to sit there running and it will help keep the High Voltage Battery (HVB) cool in summer and warm in winter. Be sure to turn off the 30 minute power down in the menu if you will be away from the running truck longer than that.

Besides that, when you encounter any issues, just search the forum and you a likely to find an answer (or more). Ford customer service is sometimes helpful but sometimes clueless, and the info on the forum is usually better and easier to obtain. :)

Yeah, have a short commute with a charger and solar while I am at work. Charging should be simple. Keeping SOH lower, 60-80%?, will be easy for me as well. The few times a year I take my truck on a longer trip, snowboarding, that is not all that far away. I am sure a full charge will get me there and back.

I have a small older light boat that I launch 20 minutes away so that should be fine as well. Occasion lumber runs, moving larger things around. I think I am a pretty ideal candidate for an EV truck.

Good tip on the 12v bat, I have a nice maintainer I can hook up once in a while just to keep an eye on it. Same as I use on the boat.

I had issues on the ICE with updates but I hope that is all sorted out now and I don't have to deal with any of that again.

Oh no ........ you'll join the line of frustration waiting for OTA's to land & post with the Lightning as well!

That is great to hear, you and Jesse have both helped me out a bunch!!
Found out the new truck had a second module replaced, work is done. Waiting for it to get back to the dealership to pick it up. Hope that is a good sign that the weaknesses have been found with my 9 module pack...not that the other 7 will need work.

Trying to wait patiently, but that is not easy.
