Captains chairs much more comfortable. I've had both and there's no contest. If we put the shifter on the column then we may as well go all the way and remove the entire center console and put in a bench seat!

The springs can barely hold the lid up as it is.talking about the fold down work surface - why is this so thick, but doesn't have additional storage built into it?
Shouldn't these folding sections open for storing papers, tablet, 'stuff' in side them?
For me it's just the way it looks. Keeps more of the traditional truck vibe with a column shifter and there's some balance on the column. As it is now, I find it really weird that we only have the one control stalk on the left side but nothing on the right side. At the same time, it frees up for more storage in the centre console. Can either put one big tub or 3D print me another couple cup holders to fit my larger diameter bottles or something.Question. I know a lot of people like column shifters but I just don't see why. I actually hate them. Why do people like them so much?
I don't particularly care for them either, I'd rather have all the wiper controls on a stalk in that position. However since the wiper controls are on the turn signal stalk, might as well put it there to free up space in the center console.Question. Space savings and practical functionality. I had a column stick shifter in my previous truck (Nissan Titan) and I did not know how much I like the column shifter vs the idiotic waste of space that the console shifter location takes up. I've heard no reason for the console locationsother than "a place to rest my hand" which there are many good center console designs with solutions for that much better than taking up space with a Gear shifter.Question. I don't have the fold out work space but I still like the feel and aesthetic of the floor shifter. I have column shift in my other truck. Reminds me of the floor shift I had in an old 80's Cutlass Sport I had, T tops leaked like a sieve but I loved that car lol.Everyone has their own preferences, and that is okay by me.
Our Ford Escape Hybrid has the rotary shift - I don't care for it personally.
Backing up the truck to park or to hook up to a trailer, get part way, decide to pull ahead a bit to get a better angle - yeah I like the centre console shift location - it just feels more 'truck like' and natural to me here.
If the shift was up on the steering column like the older trucks I am sure I would get used to it there again, like my last Ram.
I like the centre work-station area that folds out from the arm rest, and I could see this being more convenient if the shifter wasn't here, especially if the passenger was using the work space surface while I was driving.
