2025 Lariat Trim rear drivers side top seat fold down

My first post, and hope this isn't duplicated.

I needed access behind the drivers side rear seat for a ham radio install.

Once you raise the bottom seat up, the top part of the seat moves away from the rear cab. Because of this movement,you can then see the latch located about 10 inches from the door seal, inboard and about 6 inches down from the top of the seat.
I'll attempt to upload a photo.

Use open end wrench to reach down and lift on pin in latch

I tied a string on the inside of the part you circled and tied the other end of the string to the headrest. So all I have to do is pull the string to release the back.

At least on the 25 Lariot Trim, the pin just pushed downward.
Your actual "gas mileage" may vary depending on perhaps trim package.

Is this available on a 23 XLT? I’m curious if it’s only on the lariat model , I would love to use the behind the seat storage.

I the XLT and lower trims, there might even be usable space back there. On Lariat and above, the space is almost completely filled by audio components.

I bought this to try out in my 2025 Lightning Lariat. Install was easy once I got the seat down initially, but no matter what I did I couldn't get it to latch correctly once it was installed.

I wasn't willing to do the melt/cut suggestions from the FAQ and others, so I just returned it.

As noted, with the audio stuff back there I probably won't access it much. If I decide to swap out the sub/amp then it's easy enough to release with a small closed ended wrench (once you know the right spot).

....and I've been using the same one on all my F-150s (5 so far including two Raptors). I just keep moving it from truck to truck when I trade them in. It's been very handy at times.


For those who like videos this link may help. If you're having problems getting the seat back to latch after you've installed the strap assembly, pay attention to the video starting at the 9:50 minute mark.

Mine won't relatch when swinging just the back up but if I swing the seat and back up together it latches fine.

If you unlatch the seat and fold it down, you may need to move the floating latch bar to align with the latch before it will latch back again. It can be a bit fidgety to get it in the right place since it is hard to see.

It is easiest method is if you have the seat in exactly the same position as when you unlatched it (usually up because that makes it easier to access the latch.). If you have the seat down, you need to move the latch bar to line up.
