For some unknown reason, Ford took off the US flag badging off the tailgate of all Canadian trucks (maybe they knew what was coming politically, LOL). Without it, the rear looks pretty boring, so I thought I would have some fun and make something. Since the old lightnings were from the special vehicle team, I thought why not give it a try.

I think it still needs some work. Might be a little too big and the blue is definitely off. I would like the blue to be the same blue as the side badges and mine is to aqua. Is that what the digital blue by overture you guys are recommending above matches?

I've been wondering about this 3D addition... does it intrude on / is it susceptible to being knocked off by passengers' shoes? It's hard to judge by a picture.
When the seats are fully back (normal position in my truck) you still cant see them from the seat.

I pondered printing an additional extension but figured I should try them as-is a while first.

So I got an idea on another thread here about the 1953 - 56 Ford F100 Lightning red hood emblem with the bolt & gear on a red shield and the words FORD above it (not the 1963 version earlier in this thread). I just picked one up on EBay, to be delivered this week.

This 5-inch tall metal hood emblem has a funny indented crease in the back along its cast metal edge, as the 1953 - 56 Ford F100 Lightning had a strong vertical crease in the center of the hood's front where that emblem mounts.

I am thinking of mounting my F100 emblem right in the same spot, on my gray / blue Lightning's hood. Of course, our Lightnings also have a very slight curve in the center on the front of the hood so any 3D backing plate will have to conform to two different shapes, in front and in back.

So, the question: to make a 3D printed backing plate that'll fit between the new (old) hood emblem and the hood, I guess I'll have to get the F100 emblem digitally scanned, and also scan the center front of the hood... How should I approach my effort to digitally register these two different surface shapes for a legible file to then be uploaded to Thingiverse or to a 3D printing outfit?

How to do that? I do not have a 3D printer and am not experienced in this skill set. I have made jigs and mockups in wood though.

If I can't figure the digital scans out I will try to shape / carve something out of black plastic by hand, maybe with a Dremel. Although I'm sure THAT will take at least three tries before I get it right enough, haha.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
