Ac vent knobs falling off

Just wondering if this is common or something whacky with my truck. I have had 3 of the ac vent knobs that allow you to change the air direction fall off in my hand. I mean literally barely moving the vent and they just pop off. 3 of them? The driver side right vent and both of passenger ones so far. Truck has 29k miles. I have never seen anything like this and ive owned 42 different autos in my 40 years of driving.

Never had that happen to me ever; but then again, I don't really touch my vents once they're set. Perks of being the sole driver of a vehicle. Is it just the cover (chrome?) piece that falls off or is it the whole mechanism that fails once that piece falls off? If it's just the cover/trim piece, you could just superglue it back on?

Yes I had my drivers side next to the display replaced under warranty just before my 3 years was up. Mine disconnected from the up and down vents so I couldn't control left and right or up and down. I use that one all the time, the others very rarely get moved.

Yes, 4 of mine are broken and I have to use a chopstick to adjust the vents. I’m going to take to the dealership

Mine are fine, but now that I’ve noticed, they are quite fragile. I can see how they could be easily broken!

I busted one of mine off but it was my own fault: my sleeping setup knocked it off.

Scotty! Sorry to hijack the thread but I finally ordered the shifter you recommended and really appreciate the information and help! Sorry about the vents and knowing it happened so many times on your truck would be a constant worry since you mentioned having to pull the dash to get them back in.
