Stupid article. Wonder how Rivian would feel about things if the government forced them to make gasoline powered vehicles that no one wants to buy? I mean that's effectively what is/was happening, just in reverse. You don't think they would be resisting??? It has nothing to do with the fuel, it's just bad business.

I mean, yeah, if California and other states forced a transportation technology on manufacturers that polluted the air we breathe I'd have a problem with that.

The order calls for only zero emissions vehicles though. It doesn't ban ICE outright or specifically force EVs. If Ford wants to make a gas powered truck that doesn't emit any crap into the air then they're welcome to do so. I'm being cheeky with that because I imagine the development of a vehicle would be probably be very challenging, but it would be allowed under the rule.

I thought the article was sensible, just a bit obvious. Of course companies which make lots of money selling and servicing ICE vehicles, and those that sell ICE fuel, want to keep the status quo. It's "good business" to do so.

The quotes are because so many executives and investors consider business "good" when it gives them a large short-term profit at the expense of our country's long-term future, our health, and our safety. If they had their way, we'd all be burning leaded gas, there would be no airbags or ABS in most cars, you get the idea.

...And I think this group knows better than the above implication that "...no one wants to buy" electric vehicles. Nobody forced us to buy Lightnings, but it would take considerable force to take them away from most of us!

Your comment reminds of the 1990s when Honda produced the first ULEV civic and during smoggy days in LA the exhaust was “cleaner than the air entering the intake.” I think there were some caveats in that test but nonetheless, it was funny. In the late 80s and early 90s the smog in LA was notorious.
