Here is the deal; Earlier in the year Ford sent me an invitation to order and I was glad I could take advantage of Full Tax credit and proceeded to order just to find out I could not order the only trim I was s interested in (Pro), Disappointed, I extended. Then in August I got another invitation telling me it may take a while but if I skip some of the features I like, I still should be able to get the $7,500 with a 22 delivery so I ordered. Here I am disappointed again when CS is telling me no 22 delivery because of Chip Shortage (I thought by skipping the scale feature I would not be hearing that). Now I am told there is a second life until March but the history tells me there is a chance I will be disappointed again. I have a Rivian reservation but I did put it on hold because of Pro. I am not sure if I can get delivery if I bring it back to life before March. I think there will be a run on EVs that qualify in January and February. I don’t have to have a truck but I want an EV. I would rather pay less if I can but I can go as high as $80K (not interested in higher trims of Lightning). What other options do you guys think are out there before Feds get their ….. together?

Edit: just got a built date so things may not be as bad as I thought but I am still interested in your thoughts on alternatives for anyone that may be missing this two month window.

What alternatives are there? There’s only 3 electric trucks right now and since you’re talking about the tax credit, it has to be new.

Your only options then are the Ford and the Rivian, which you’ve already stated. Both of which are backlogged.

Your options are
1) Wait and hope you take delivery of the Lightning
2) Wait and hope you take delivery of the Rivian
3) Wait and hope the guidance on battery tech is further delayed

You can also wait and hope the VW, GMC, Chevy, Tesla, etc pickup gets launched, produced, and delivered before March but I figured we were keeping it to realistic options.

I don't have to have a truck. New Chevy bolts are listed online that can end up being dirt cheap after tax incentive. I have two ICE (A truck and a sport car). If I get an EV truck I may keep the sport car. If I get an EV anything else, I may keep the truck.

If you’re open to just any EV and don’t need a truck then the I can’t recommend an EV truck. Simply because it’s fighting against the essence of an EV. You can get far more range, efficiency, in a lighter more maneuverable package with an EV car. Whether or not you can get one is still a struggle but Hyundai/Kia offerings are phenomenal right now due to the higher voltage and quicker charging.

But if buying an EV car means you keep the IcE truck then by all means definitely get an EV truck vs an ICE truck.

Which then makes it the only feasible option since there aren’t any true EV sports car yet. Taycan comes closest but it’s still a GT more than a sports car. Or simply put. Buying an EV bolt would mean you still have an ICE sports car and truck or leave you with some disappointment in one of those categories

So weird yours is delayed and all us with basically the same Pro got delivered. There is nothing unusual on your build to hold it up.

I am thinking some dude had a hangover when he was driving it to the parking lot and smashed into another truck. "Chip hold" sounds much better than "we screwed up".

From the numbers, there might be 2000 of us that fall in this category?

That would be a massive pile up in the parking lot ;).

If it is actually a chip hold, then how they decide what goes into chip hold becomes the question since we see folks with similar options but later blend get shipped while earlier blends get stuck.

Ford originally forecasted retail 22MY production of only 3.5% SR XLT and 5% SR Pro models, which would have equated to about 3500 units total if they produced 40k configurations.

If they actually made 16k units of 22MY, and they stuck with their planned % of configurations, there would have been about 2500 SR units made. Having revised my calculations, my number of 2000 is high, but there are still many SR units still not manufactured, including ours.

In our case, we struggled to receive a "no MSRP" DORA when we placed our order, and I bet the dealer pushed our production as late as he could.

I was a priority 19 at my dealer.

Tesla Model Y with a $7500 reduction if written up today (12-31-22)! Oops, can they back date? But would get the $7500 tax credit next year? Much better charging infrastructure would be key if traveling away from a home charger. Can sleep in the back of a Model Y, so could be of mini-camper use. It is a nice entry SUV until Ford gets Explorer+ size EVs going. Just needs a "heads up" display to make it better.

Chip Hold is a generic term. It could be missing anything. My friend's Tremor was showing it was on a Chip Hold. Seems it was missing the back seat and both fender trim pieces.
