When selecting a charging station on the Blue Oval app, does the battery begin to prep when the route to charging station is started?

I'm only guessing that it will, assuming you mean the Charge Assist app on the Sync screen.

It uses the Ford navigation map to give you routing guidance. I haven't confirmed this when it's most noticeable in really cold weather.

Note I got the updated application the morning that Ford / Tesla rolled out charging for Tesla stations last spring, on that day it was chilly / cold, I did get pretty good charging performance, but I'd like to test further this coming winter.

It used to from the Ford Nav app, when I first got my '22. But I haven't seen the battery prep message in at least a year. Maybe it just doesn't matter if you've been driving for a while?

I’ve yet to see an official Ford answer, quite a while back (year +) an update came out for MACH-E saying it did which people “assumed” also meant the Lightning.

Having driven a Lightning thru last winter at -30C/F and using the nav/charger select religiously it never made a difference (max 40 kw) every time. The only preconditioning the truck does is plugged in at a 6kw plus level 2 with departure set in Sync.

We have a DCFC that shows what truck asks for vs charger output - limit in winter was always the truck side.

Unlikely to see the "Ford" account here say anything other than offer a DM communication. I've not seen anything other than the promotion you mentioned during the winter of 22/23.

I think i've had a few successfully speedy charging session in the depth of winter after a long day of very cold temp's and selecting the upcoming fast charging station in Ford navigation.

Winter 24/25 is expected to be colder, time & testing will tell.

I was getting 120kw pretty quickly. Allegedly it only kicks in the last 30km or so and temps/speed/soc will also factor into that. Allegedly, the charger also has to be selected as a waypoint of your trip. There is no cooling mode, allegedly.

If you're only getting 40kw it's something else as the kw will ramp up in a few minutes even of its not been preconditioned.

Does this only apply in cold weather country?

I'm exposed to 50-100 degrees in So Calif. Anything to be concerned with out here?

I definitely see/hear the truck take a more active role in cooling the battery - simply because you can hear the fans. If I lived in south I would pony up for the Max Tow with second cooling pump/loop. A wise invesment as heat kills battery in long term, cold doesnt hurt battery.

They need a second heating loop/pump was disappointed the Max tow was only cooling (being heat pumps can do both).
