Any reason (other than some range loss) that I can’t put Bf Goodrich all terrain tires on my lightning? Ive heard some people mention you need special tires that can handle more weight.
Im hoping to match this look of the Maverick.
Thanks
Anthony

You should be fine as long as you get the 10 ply version, but I would expect a 20 to 25 in percent hit to range. KO2s are great tires, but they are heavy and have high rolling resistance.

That’s a pretty significant loss of range

I would not expect a 20-25% drop in range, but I think 15% is likely. I run Destination ATs on my Ridgeline and my mileage has always been crummy with them even with an engine in good tune. My Tacoma also suffered from lousy mileage and I ran the same tires - but they really were great tires!

OEM tires have a 115 load rating so you should be good with a tire of equal or greater than that.

20% to 25% was the hit I took when I put them on my 2016 XLT supercrew with the 2.7l. Dropped to below 16 mpg on the highway when I could get just over 20 before the swap. Loved the tires, looked good and great snow performance, but very inefficient.

I hear you- I would love to put these on my Lightning (and run them currently on my 14 F150), but they are crazy heavy compared to the stock/AT tires- 57 lbs each, vs 41.

I found these Toyo Open Countrys AT III's as a nice alternative- much closer to stock weight (at 42 lbs) but more rugged tread like the KO's. Hoping a change to these won't see more than a 5% range impact.

I've had KO2's and really liked them. (275/65/20's) I took a 20% hit with my 2015 Ford F150 eco Boost 3.5. On my 2021 F150 3.5 eco boost, I put on Nitto Recon Ridge Grappler in 33x12.50R20LT but they weighed 62 lbs each and was about 20% hit as well. Pretty good tire but get louder after about 10k of wear. 275/65/20's are taller than 33x12.50 and looked better to me. I ordered the AS tire but plan to run Pirelli Scorpion All Terrian Plus like the Rivain. They weight 47 lbs .

For my ICE F-150, I purchased a second set of stylish/functional rims with the BFG KO2 tires.

I just sold my ICE F-150 yesterday with both sets of wheels with an essentially brand new set of KO2 tires and also the stock set of rims and tires.

I'll do the same for the Lightning. Stock ones for daily commuting and an aftermarket set of rims and KO2 for when I go camping.

Note that Ford de-rates the GVWR by 150# on ER vehicles that are equipped with All Terrain tires compared to an identical Lightning with All Season tires. GVWR of an ER Lightning is 8,400 pounds for All Terrain tires. The same ER Lightning with All Season tires has a GVWR of 8,550 pounds.

Both the all terrain and all season tires have the same 115T load rating.

Ford doesn't detail the reason for derating the GVWR but we suspect it is due to higher rolling resistance of the AT tires and the subsequent heat build up.

Just something to consider when replacing the OEM tires.
