Now if all DCFC stations had a handful of 40 amp a/c stations I would support your cut their balls off at 90% approach.

As I said before here people need to chill and rely on the golden rule. I don’t understand while so many on here feel privileged and entitled. ?‍

no one is saying you shouldn’t be able to charge to 100%. It should just be much more expensive in order to prevent people who don’t need to charge to 100% from restricting access to other drivers. We need this precisely because there *isn’t* robust charging infrastructure.

But why should I be penalized because you are impatient or unwilling to drive to the next station?

You are trying to make a “me problem” a “you problem”. If they were there first, they have the right to charge. If they are following the golden rule, they could offer to stop and let you slide in if there is only one or two dispersers.

Sorry but we will have to disagree on this if you want people to actually adopt EVs. If you put more barriers on charging you will stall the transition of “normal people”.

I've been fast charging for 2.5 years. I would say that in my experience, about 95% of people fast charging to 100%, or even over 90%, don't need the range, they are just doing it. Unscientific, but what I see.

I'd also say that a great many of them have an attitude, i.e. "F U if you don't like it, it's my right". I agree there should be a surcharge for going over 90%.

And, there should not be any discount programs for anyone that encourages them to fast charge instead of installing a home charger.

Doesn’t Europe have a hard cap? I think that is the appropriate way.

We have a robust 50 kW hwy infrastructure that was put in years ago, but sits empty because of their slowness. The one thing that those installs have is a level 2 also.

To me, this type of install is the path. Place a hard cap on DCFC charging by either a SOC percentage or it your charge curve drops below 25kW and offer 40/48 amp level 2 to top off if needed.

That gets to your guys concerns without trying to “blame” and “shame” a person. The other factor to think of in the referenced “penalty” EVs are expensive and if working class people are to move over to them, we need to not make it cost more than gasoline. ?‍

And for transparency, I don’t fast charge hardly ever, and our stations are never full so I don’t ever have the frustrations you all experience. That said, I wanted an EV so I chill and enjoy the experience, even if I have to wait a little to charge.

There are a couple areas of the state, that yes in my Lightning I would need to charge to 90-95% to make a round trip into the wilderness to get back to a DCFC. So my recommendations will always be to “be kind and rewind”??

I guess I'm glad that there aren't folks pondering various ways to influence my decisions at the dinosaur fuel pump. I can buy 1 gallon, or top it completely off, and nobody is giving me the evil eye.

If they see more people having a bad experience because a large portion of people are spending an extra hour at the charge station to get from 90 to 100 then it is their right, and the smart thing to do, to incentivize people to leave chargers sooner. You have absolutely zero right to pay the same amount for the first 10% of your battery as the last 10% of your battery. That’s entirely at the discretion of the charging provider.

Because it is a commodity and I am paying the vendor. So that gives me every right to use the service I am paying for.

And actually read my posts, I said I don’t do that, and I said people that need to should offer up the space, but as a user of a charging station that person has absolutely ZERO right to tell someone how to think or act.

Just because you bought a tank, like I did, that eats a lot of kW does not mean you deserve to use the station anymore then the person already plugged in. it is just our desire to satisfy our needs and wants. That is human nature. I get it.

I didn't go into this purchase uneducated or inexperienced either (31k Mike's on 2021 Mach-E). Given I spent a ton of time researching stops on our route, hitting the worst offenders on stop 2 in Atlanta area with so many chargers was a shock. I was fine seeing high speed charging cars there, but ever bolt owner just seemed clueless. In the end this 3 state trip may never be done again until major changes come. I'm glad I still have our Challenger and will enjoy it for future road trips.

EV charging isn't a right. This discussion is entirely about how charging providers efficiently service customers. Right now there's a major problem with people hogging chargers when they don't need to. Just because you "need" to charge to 100% doesn't mean everyone needs to. If you end up suffering because of the situation it's because of the bad behavior of other drivers who don't care, or appreciate, the importance of using public charging infrastructure efficiently. It has nothing to do with anyone being impatient.

If you end up suffering because of the situation it's because of the bad behavior of other drivers who don't care, or appreciate, the importance of using public charging infrastructure efficiently. Sounds like a you problem. Maybe relax chill and wait?‍. You clearly have the belief your need is more important than the person charging when you arrived and that is totally on you. Might be something to ponder the next time you reflect on your life, your priorities, and how to be a good person?

I encourage you and everyone else to just chill, because someday you might need to charge your Lightning to more than 85% at a DCFC. It seems like several of you are developing charging rage and the last thing we need is an incident hitting the news because someone with narcissistic tendencies chooses to “help educate” someone that needs to charge.

Remember breath, relax, and enjoy life. The few minutes you spend relaxing is way more beneficial to your body and soul than being “that person” who thinks everything is about them in that moment. Live ?.

I've had to charge over 90% to make the next charging stop before. Most commonly with my SR Model 3 a few years ago, but there are plenty of circumstances where that's needed. I recently started pulling a camper which drags my efficiency through the floor, and there will be times next summer where I'll need more than 80%.

Charging extra for those last few percent would really suck for those of us who need it. This will b e less of a problem over the coming years when charging improves, though.

In my simpleton mind, it's gotta be one or the other.
And I admit that they both might be managed and incentivized entirely different.

Public charging, I'd argue, would be an accurate term for a tax payer provided and government employee staffed facility. It would likely need security guards on site to act as civil obedience referees. ?

Private is what most, if not all, current charging facilities are? I don't honestly know. I'm an L2 exclusive charger myself. Absolutely private. I stay plugged in from the moment I arrive home until I'm heading out next.
