The Colorado State tax credit is 5000.00 for vehicles under 8500 GVWR. My 2024 lightning Flash is 8550GVWR. Be warned. I had no idea and it’s not something that I would have thought to ask about. The dealer was mum. Not surprised. . I wonder if I had purchased the same truck without the extras like a bed liner etc., if it would have come under 8500. Let me what your GVWR is.

Had you bought an SR vehicle instead of an ER vehicle, you would have been fine. The ER battery puts you over 8,500. Specs are available on the Ford website.

This happened to me. I amended my return (you can do this free on CO's website) and checked the 'light truck' option instead. Got the 5k back a few weeks later.

Always delete the sunroof/moon roof.

  • Reduces the weight by a LOT - 500 lbs depending on the vehicle.
  • Reduce the number of holes in your roof that water will eventually find it's way in through.
  • Get rid of some electromechanical BS that you're not going to use nearly as much as you think it will.
  • Save money on the vehicle.
  • Save money and range on energy costs trying to keep a greenhouse cool in the summer.

I did the sunroof delete and it was the smartest thing I could have done. I hate having sun coming from above when I'm driving. It's unpredictable and annoying to have light conditions change inside every time I turn and change directions.
After a sunroof seal fiasco with my Grand Cherokee I'll never have a sunroof on a vehicle again if I can help it. I had massive water intrusion into the roof and overhead controls when the dam thing didn't close and seal properly. Turns out it was because somehow the mechanism lost it's calibration and didn't know what position closed was so it stopped a few millimeters early - enough to make me have to pull the leads off the battery and go through a recalibration process that took hours to find on the interwebs (so much confusing trash out there to wade through to get to the answer you need).... for a sunroof I used maybe five times in 7 years to let some hot air out. I never enjoyed having it open. Anytime I opened it a bugle went off summoning the oldest shittiest loudest dump truck to jake brake right next to me until I close the lid again.

You also lose headroom with the power sunroof.

This state! 2024 XLT. Everything is good, 24 month lease, less than $80k, under the GVWR, etc. Did my taxes in early February. Made sure everything was perfect and filed. A month later they say I don’t qualify for $5,000 because of everything I just listed. Had to appeal and send them the exact same info again. Been waiting for weeks and can’t find any info for my appeal on their site and they won’t let you chat or call because it says they are slammed. Ugh.

I have filed for 2024 and the $5,000 tax credit but it hasn't been processed yet. MY GVWR is listed at 8,450 on the door sticker for a '24 Flash with 9.6 KW Pro Power & Max Trailer Towing.

Have you read through the DR0617 tax form that addresses the EV tax credit? There is some discussion there about trucks that have a GVWR above 8,500 being eligible but it seems like they mean commercial EV trucks.

Here's hoping we all get this sorted out. That tax credit is a big deal for me!

For total clarity-a sunroof does not add 500lbs of weight to a truck. The Pano roof adds about 64lbs of weight to the truck per fords specs for the 2015 F150 (first truck that had the pano roof and aluminum body)

https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/attachments/2015-ford-truck-payload-option-weights-pdf.2948/

Also-weights of small options such as a sunroof don't typically change GVWR. Options that can typically change GVWR are things like suspension setups, axle ratios, payload packages, or (in this case) battery setups.

For the OP-if you aren't able to make the change to your return consider submitting a dispute with the state. I successfully disputed a tax credit error with Colorado for my Bolt-it is actually a surprisingly easy process.

I didn't know the exact weight, but I did make a point. Thank you though for the internal contradiction in your post. You said it adds 64 lbs of weight and then you said it doesn't add any weight. Which is it? I don't think 64 lbs is a true number. I think that's just the glass. There's also the tracks, motor, tracks for the shades, and whatever else - cables, whatever. I think it's definitely more than 64 lbs.
