It’s not beta because I got it today on iOS and I’m not in the beta circle.
Yeah, early access was about 15 minutes early on this one.

Don't worry, Ford is still committed to issuing software updates for our trucks even though they cancelled it.....

Literally, the very next feature they release is not available on Lightnings. I'd be shocked if we ever see an OTA again other than for recalls.

While I am happy with the current state of software and use CarPlay almost exclusively, there are a few low hanging fruit updates I'd love to see before the truck's software is shelved.

  • Some way to precondition the battery when using CarPlay. Whether they work with Apple to make it automatic or add a button on the sync screen, but something.
  • Support for iOS26 video AirPlay via CarPlay
  • Support fo riOS26 multitouch in CarPlay

This Ford page doesn't list the Lightning as being compatible. The few reviews aren't great either.
Yes, it does work with our Lightnings. I beta tested this last year for about 5 months. It is actually a third-party product that Ford rebranded as their own. It uses the OBD port to charge the battery and has its own cell modem built in. It mounts to the middle of the rear window. It is a big camera and, for me, blocked too much of my view. It only works when parked and only records when motion is detected. Also, the battery only lasts about 2-3 days. Since I don't drive my truck every day, there were times that the battery would completely drain. Once, dead, the only way to charge it was to remove the battery (4 screws) and charge it via USB. Once the beta period ended, I threw it away. It was not beneficial to me for my use cases.

EDIT: Here is a thread about the third-party system, Canopy.

Silly me thinking this worked with the existing bed camera. What a horrible solution.

Honestly, I’m starting to think the same thing.

No way in hell we get anything beside recall-fixing software updates from here on out.
