2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Flash
Just got my 2025 Lightning 2 days ago (HYPE). This topic may have already been beaten to death so if someone has a previous post I can read linking it would be great.

With my Lightning purchase I got the Ford Power Promise. The dealer advised it could take any where from 2 weeks to 3 months to get my charger and installation completed. So I am curious if anyone has purchased a Lightning recently in 2025 what your wait time was for the arrival of your charger and installation?

Thank you in advance!

If the dealer had the charger in stock, they should have given it to you when you took delivery of the vehicle. Otherwise, they should have provided you a discount code so you could order it online, free of charge. If neither of these happened, you need to go back to the dealer.

Bought my truck in march. Dealer gave me the charger that day. Charger installed almost exactly a month later. A lot depends on your town and the permitting process. That was the biggest hold up. Otherwise everything went pretty smooth. As soon as the approval came in they emailed me to schedule an install day.

according to the dealer they stopped receiving them directly. I am waiting for them to send me some coupon code thing so I can get the ball rolling. I just purchased the truck 2 days ago. Just trying to get a ballpark on the waiting time. My area only has one level 3 charger and it’s always being used when I’ve done by it. I’ll limp around with the level 1 as much as I can for now

Congrats on the purchase! I myself used the level 1 charger for over a month with no issues since I drive very little.

Also you might want to click here (account details) and update your Vehicles field to include year and trim (e.g. 2025 Lightning Flash).

To follow on my post above, another search term could be Qmerit, which is the installer, once you get to that phase.

Most people get a call from Qmerit within a couple weeks. Qmerit then selects a local contractor to give you a quote and do the work. The timing on that part can vary widely depending on the contractor. I’ve heard of folks getting it installed right away, others have waited a month or more.

I purchased my truck the end of April and my charger was installed by the end of May.

Yes, yes this has been a topic and just like you I posted about it. I haven’t read everyone’s posts but I’m sure that you’ll eventually get a call/email from a service provider to come to your residence and install the charger. It is important to note that unless something has changed the dealer will have the chargers or will get the chargers but may or may not notify you if they are there. It’s annoying, believe me I know, but I would confirm whether or not they currently have them (like now, or as soon as you can) if they do go and get them and if they don’t bother them until they do.

The main reason is that I had an installer come out to do the job only to have it delayed because I didn’t have the chargers, neither did he and the dealer neglected to remain in contact to let me know that it was available. Once you do have it and it’s installed it’s a wonderful convenience that takes away all your anxieties about local public charging and/or using the trickle charge packs they give you. Best of luck and congrats on your purchase.

If you are looking at a long delay, the Ford Charge Station Pro's are selling for between $600 and $700 on eBay, new in the box from folks who already had a charger and didn't need theirs. Warranty can be transferred too.

I bought mine on eBay that way for $600 with shipping back in Jan 2024.

Or you could buy a different L2 EVSE on Amazon.

I used the Ford Mobile Power Cord for a few months until I installed my FCSP. When I bought my 2023 Pro, I did not get a 'free' FCSP from Ford - the Mobil was not free either ($500) on the MSRP.

I got the FCSP because of the 80A charging capability (future proof) and the possibility of V2H with the HIS - I later realized the HIS from SunRun was not a great idea - so many people have issue with theirs.

Someday Ford might agree to let us use other V2H/V2G systems with our Lightnings, but I am not holding my breath for that. Instead just using a GENERAC 6853 switch and the 240V bed outlet for emergency circuit backup in an outage.

Does Ford block V2H use with other hardware? I saw that Emporia has a bidirectional charger on their site listed as 'coming soon', and their support staff said it will support the Lightning. They also said though that 'soon' is relative, and it isn't expected to actually be available for 18-24 months.

My dealer gave me the charger when I bought the truck. It only took a few days to get an email from Qmerit about the install. Unfortunately it's still not installed because Qmerit and the installer, a local solar installer, would not be straight with me on the quote they gave me. My install isn't standard, which I knew it wouldn't be, so it's not free. They refused to give me a detailed quote on all the pricing especially the permitting fees. They would just give me generic answers without ever telling me how much each thing cost. They gave me a total for the permits and another for the install but wouldn't give a price breakdown so I could confirm things were adding up properly. I will probably be reporting Qmerit to the BBB.

Apparently the one being sent is the pro charger which is the 1300$

Dealer didn’t have any so I had to wait for it to be sent. My install will be straight forward. In garage about 6 ft from panel. I hope I have a smooth experience with them

My issue is I don't have any space in my panel for the breaker so I need to have a sub-panel installed. The price of the install was about what I expected but the permits were $700 and they refused to tell me what that $700 was going to. For all I know it's $40 to have the inspection but they are charging me more. I asked multiple times and they just wouldn't be straight with me. I have a friend that is an electrician so if he is too busy to do it he will know someone who can.

The HIS system uses a Delta Bi-Directional Inverter (BID).

The problem with using the Lightning with other BID systems is the software.

The truck has to be told to provide/allow access to the DC pins on the CCS1 to connect to the battery and interact to keep track of the battery level etc. That is done via communication between the Ford Charge Station Pro EVSE and the Lightning on serial communications lines under software control in the HIS.

But that is all proprietary software of Ford right now.

Will Ford allow other companies' BID systems to use that software is the issue.

Some folks are trying to 'hack' the FCSP so that they can emulate the HIS with other BIDs.

But unless Ford opens it up/unlocks the access, no other systems can work with the Lightnings.

Yes there are other bi-directional systems coming or are available, Franklin has one.

The HIS Delta hardware can be bought from other suppliers and Sunrun does not (at last check) have exclusivity with the install - for a time Qmerit was installing them I think. I looked into that and the hardware cost was roughly $4500 at the time. Not counting the stuff like conduits and wiring and electrical boxes that may be needed.

But the install is a bit involved - it could be done by an experienced DIYer but not a novice.

I downloaded the SunRun HIS install docs back in 2024, they may have changed since then.

But the "rub" (problem) is the Ford software implementation has been pretty bad, sort of like the early FCSP software difficulties, mostly it seemed t be communication related - the dreaded BlueTooth dropouts etc.

I heard someone was starting a class action suit about it a while ago, but I haven't kept up on that.

If anyone has any updated info let us know.
