FordPass app outage now, connectivity requirements normally?

I've only had my lightning a few weeks, so I'm not sure if this is typical or not. But the Fordpass app on my Android phone loads up with a message saying there is a system error. Force close, phone reboot, toggling VPN, etc have no effect. Oddly the widget with charging status on my home screen does seem to get an update intermittently. The app was working fine until this morning, and now seems to be out the last few hours. I'm on my home Wi-Fi, behind my custom arch Linux based router / firewall so I know it's not a DNS or IP blocking issue. No other observable Internet issues this morning. Is anyone else seeing an outage?

While I'm on the subject, the app and truck both need a valid Internet connection to control the truck, correct? With the Tesla app, there are a ton of things you can do if you are in Bluetooth range but no valid Internet, such as vent windows, lock/unlock, start HVAC, etc. It seems to me all of those commands (except for frunk and tailgate) do not go over Bluetooth in zero signal areas, but rather fail because they can't reach Ford's servers. Is that right?

Your observation is accurate, the higher levels of control & information flow through the AT&T telematics connection, if the Ford Servers are having an issue, that's why you are experiencing this problem.

Still wasn't working as of this morning. Did an app uninstall / reinstall, no dice. But then I did a clear cache and storage, uninstall, reinstall. Now I have connectivity to the truck again.

It made me completely redo the phone as a key process, but wouldn't let me reuse my door code. Seems to have remembered the old copy of the same app on the same phone. Any idea how to clear that old one out? The Bluetooth screen has the original name of the phone, but Android Auto has the name of the phone with a 2 appended. Just would like to have it all matching, if I'm going to try to rely on phone as a key in the future....

Sometimes the servers go down or the connection seems to be lost in the ozone somewhere.
And in my experience here in my local area, the AT&T service is often iffy.
Unfortunately, we are stuck with AT&T, oh well.

I haven't been able to connect since yesterday. I tried turning off and on connected services, disconnecting the battery and charging to 100% last night. No change. May be unrelated but I was on a drive yesterday and sync completely restarted while driving around the same time app stopped connecting.

I'll uninstall and re-install the app and see if that works for me.

No dice on the app re-install which makes sense as milage and SOC aren't updating on ford.com either. The health check does show "Last health check update: 09:41 AM on 7/7/2025." But i'm guessing that's just the last time the page was loaded and not actually that it connected to the truck.

Did you try a clear cache before uninstall? Apparently it's the clear storage that will bork your phone as a key data...

I'm using an iPhone (no way to clear cache) but with the data not updating on ford.com either I don't think it's an app issue. I have not driven the truck since doing anything listed above so it's possible it will update when I do.

Also, to add to the coincidence that may tie it to sync restarted on me, the truck status in in the app is "Vehicle is on" so I was driving whenever it decided to stop updating.

At this exact moment, servers and my truck are talking to each other.

The issues might be related to security controls on your phone or the truck has gone into a deep sleep at this time or there is a comm's issue in the truck.

The other thing that might have triggered the issue for me is that I had invited and set up PaaK on my girl's phone the day prior. I didn't make the connection until just now. Did you make any changes like that recently, @JAXLightning ?

XLT with no PaaK here. I don't recall any recent changes.

I, too, have been experiencing this issue since yesterday (still this morning, Monday 7/7). I don't recall experiencing an extended outage like this in the last 2 years.

Edit: Also applies to my son's Ford Escape. So I think this a FordPass server issue.

For Android operators, Clear Data will screw your PAAK, but it's safe to Clear Cache.

BTW, my Fordpass has worked perfectly all day, so not certain it is servers, but they might segment the workload and "some" servers might be having issues.

Update: Back to normal after clearing the cache (Android) and rebooting phone. Before that it was still funky - but when wife's iphone was working fine I decided to go for another reboot.
