Proud newish owner of a 23 Lightning Platinum -avalanche color.

Before the wife catches on I figured I would toughen it up a little. Thinking lift/leveling, wheels/tires, bumpers, anything else I'm missing?

Looking for suggestions for absolutely necessary equipment, color choices to go with avalanche and anything else i am missing....some facts:

Will probably never go off road, maybe some winter driving in Flagstaff or Tuscon but that would be it.
Not too worried about range--Short daily drives
Fell in love with blue cruise..so want whatever mod to be compatible.

Oh, and if you can recommend a shop in the greater Phoenix area, I will listen to that too. I went to one (based on goolge ratings since I have zero clue) and this is what they came up with---thoughts???:

  • Ready lift 2.25" leveling kit
  • 20x9 Fuel Off Road Rebel .01 offset
  • Toyo Open Country A/T III LT295/60R20 126/123S E10
  • Addictive desert designs HoneyBadger Front Bumper w/ Top Hoop
  • 30" Rigid Spot LED
  • Addictive desert designs Stealth Fighter Rear Bumper

I went with the Zone Off-road 3 inch kit. it uses both a spacer and preload collar in the front. Have been happy thus far and I only rub slightly in reverse at full lock to the right with my rather large Toyo AT3 35x11.5 R17 tired.

I also noticed the load rating on those wheels is only 2300 lbs. Should be fine for a 7000 lbs truck as long as you are not to hard on them.

Welcome to the forums, and hello from Phoenix as well! Congrats on picking up your Lightning @Numbskull!

Sounds like you have some fun plans in store for your Lightning, would love to see some photos of it when you can.

We do enjoy talking about wheels and tires and noticed that you have a pretty solid package idea in mind. The Fuel wheels look great on Fords, did you have a color in mind? The Open Country's A/T III's would look good mounted up on those wheels and is a great tire choice as well!

If there anything we can to do to help, let us know, we are always happy to help!

Mine has leveling kit and aftermarket Roush wheels.

As far as I can tell, there is no effect (affect?? Idk) on blue cruise.

The wheels and tires do take a hit to the range though. I’m averaging about 1.7 mi/kWh.

I bought this one used and the modifications had already been done on it, so I don’t know much about the details. But it looks really good and the range doesn’t bother me too much.

Pardon my ignorance, but why do people install leveling kits? What do they do and why is it advantageous to do it? All I can picture is it eliminates the rear-to-front slope of the truck. Is that it?

Yes, that’s it. It’s really just for the look. Combined with a good set of wheels and tires, gives a more aggressive stance I guess. I probably wouldn’t install one, but since the truck I bought already has it, I really like the look of it.

I just put on a two inch ready lift kit and a set of Raptor takeoffs. Did need to install a spacer to clear the calipers.
