Trying something else now. I recall a sim prob on my wife’s ‘19 stang with Syn3.4.
It didnt like the fact that I used Quick Format. So reformated in long ways, reinstalled sync files and viola. Worked.
Pain in the arse. Im using a 128g flash drive and reformatting long way takes awhile. Crossing fingers.

It was all done correctly. I formatted a new flash drive larger than needed... The dealer tried it 4 times. ( I’m a computer and electronic tech btw)…
Everything was done with FDRS etc. and so on.
My shot was intended for the dealer, not you. If you were overseeing their work and saw that they did everything correctly, then I apologize.

Apparently, there is a fail safe method of programming modules that the dealer can use if programming via USB doesn’t work—programming via the CAN bus. It’s time-consuming because the CAN bus is very slow. Did your dealer try this?

Just so you can confirm.
You should have a manifest file on the root cause f the drive and the folder with the files only those two things.

They did everything under a Ford Engineers guidence on phone. Everything from updating their service computer and so on. They will not ok an apim module without going through all this bs this and that. I pretty much told dealer time for a lemon. But they are good people. Their computer techs are not computer saavy though. So Ford ok’ed a new module. But I’d like it resolved before we get it. Im tired of waiting.

Thus, my rant. This sounds exactly like what my dealer told me about my faulty TCU. Everything done under engineering instructions, etc. In fact, what you just wrote reads like a script for what I’ve been dealing with for the last five months. After ostensibly trying everything, engineering authorized the TCU replacement. And my dealer is also very good. But, when I did it myself—I thought, what the hell, they plan to replace the TCU anyway—I got both the TCU and the APIM to update on the very first try.

I believe that your dealer did everything they could to the best of itheir capabilities. But that doesn’t mean they did it correctly.

This reminded me of a few years back when me and a bunch of other fellas on the Ecoboost forum were all trying to update our Sync 3 systems and mine worked first time but others wouldn't take. They all swore by using the same technique. Anyways, I shipped my Samsung USB stick to another inmate and he reported it worked immediately for him. That led to him sending the stick to yet another, and it worked. On and on.

The only explanation anyone could come up with is the that the Ford really liked that specific brand and model of USB stick.

My point being..... Well you already know. Try a few different sticks.

Folks, anyone else having issues their SYNC/APIM after 2.3.0 OTA (or FDRS equivalent) installation ?

I noticed 2 issues so far:

1) The Ford splash screen is sometimes replaced with plain white screen when driver door is opened and truck is shut down. This does not happen all the time but it happens

2) Under SYNC -> Features -> Cruise Control -> Adaptive Cruise Control, the Speed Sign Recognition feature deactivates every time I power cycle the APIM. If this is indeed a bug, this is quite a major one, as your Cruise Control would not follow posted speed signs, either though it would still recoginze and show speed limit it in IPC

Can oneone test this and report back ?

I haven’t seen #1 since updating. I can’t confirm #2 because I don’t use what was previously called “smart” cruise control.

Have you tried seeing if there is another APIM update? I updated my APIM on Wednesday and was very surprised that there was another update today. Much smaller—no flash drive required. Programmed directly through the CAN bus in less than a minute. Maybe that’s your bug fix—or at least A bug fix.

Maybe. The Ford turds were guiding him... More than once I should say.
But I was there with the TSB and instructions right in front of me.
There are waaaay too many people out there that are having this problem. It seems to exist on builds prior to March'21. My boy has the same truck with a later build and his is fine.

I just ran a test with all modules including the TCU, APIM, GW, etc. No errors. Cleared them all anyway.

Did, 3 of them....
Here is what I used last: Amazon.com: SanDisk 128GB Ultra USB 3.0 Flash Drive - SDCZ48-128G-U46 : Electronics

So as for my experiment. 30mins or so to reformat the thumb drive. Copied files...Shut down truck, etc. Restarted and inserted the thumb drive. System recognized it, (by name), claimed it indexed it and nada... Shows in audio source as a blank drive which just means no music, etc.
So it's going to stay in the dang truck all weekend and see if it trips the dl while out and about. If not, just have to wait for the new module.

Sounds to me like you really don’t want to take a crack at this yourself, notwithstanding your professional technical expertise. I get it. I’ll stop trying to persuade you.

Not take a crack? What crack? What have I been doing for 4 months. Please tell me. My patience is worn.

Do you have your own programmer? Your own license to FDRS? Have you created your own flash drive directly from FDRS rather than having the dealer do it for you? I apologize. I really can’t tell how much of this exercise you have taken on yourself.

Thats a stupid analogy. First of all, why the eff should I have to invest in over $150 in hardware/software to fix their effing problem? Chances are using it once and never again?
I already pay for various software ecm readers and crap as is.

Its not my damn job to. I'm working hand in hand with them trying to be patient. Ford has a claim in. I'm determined to fix this but not after I invested over $75K in a truck. I should be having fun, not wasting gas/time driving back and forth to a dealer 20miles away.
I don't know about you but being retired gives me plenty of time to screw around. And I'm willing to share with them to a point. Ford Engineers are the dealers last line of defense. What they say goes and if at this point, an APIM is about $1G retail that is not my prob. But dealer is not going to order one without Ford's consent otherwise they foot the bill. (Did you know there service techs don't get paid under this warrantee crap unless they fix it?) There is no guarantees buying my own adapter, software license or anything else. AND if I/You or anyone fuks it up, you're screwed. Ford will not cover it if you can't repair it.
