I dropped the truck off to the dealer for maintenance and a CSP this morning. As I was walking away it beeped at me. So I guess WAL is working.

A toggle minimum. A whitelist option where you can enter your address so it does not lock at home but locks every where else should also be an option. I absolutely do not want my truck locking in my garage and thus makes this feature utterly useless and moreover completely annoying with out a white list or a toggle.

Also does anyone have any idea what actually changed with Frunk operation? I sure was under the belief my frunk has been closing securely this whole time?!?
You want to make so much sense of this.

I'll try to keep lowering my standards but it sure is getting difficult!

Doesn’t everyone keep their phone in their pocket usually? Or have a keypad backup code? Why is the car locking in a home automatically such a hassle for people?

Trying to understand. Seems like a nice security backup, even at home that won’t cause any inconvenience for me since my phone is always in my pocket and door auto unlocks the moment I touch it. If not, I can use the keypad 🤷

First and most obvious case, I have 3 kids that need to get into my truck every morning to go to school. Do I want to have to unlock the truck every morning so they can get in. NO I DO NOT!

Less frequent but yes it does come up from time to time where I do not have my phone on me and need to grab something out of the truck or put something in it.

Also the damn PAAK is so SSSLLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWW to react it's annoying enough to use PAAK when Im not at home much less needing to rely on it at home.

Is it possible that this will become available to push via FDRS, since we could not push that method prior (without dealer/locksmith)?

Coming from Tesla, this is one of my most desired features wanted on the truck. Having to always lock the truck upon exiting after not having to do so for years, I look forward to it. I also still forget to power off the truck via start/stop button at times.

@luebri, Tesla has a toggle to disable auto-locking via specific locations, like work & home, so this could be avoided in your scenario, but locks everywhere else.

For those not in favor, I agree that the toggle should be visible for those wanting to disable.

Correct. That is what I mentioned a few posts ago. Walk Away lock with a "location whitelist" option is ideal.

I have zero expectation or hope the software team at Ford will be able to pull off adding that. Remember, these are the same peoples that were too incompetent to even mention in their update notes that Walk Away Lock was included in this update. (not the first time they've pulled that crap)

This is such a great feature. Used it last night several times……. No more fighting with the black button on the handle or taking out the phone to open the app and lock lol

FYI for those like me. That do not want the vehicle locked at home and are an iPhone user.

There is a way to trigger an unlock when arriving at a location using Shortcuts. I played with this previously, so now will need to make sure I have a proper shortcut automation setup to trigger the Unlock.

This guy has a bunch of info on all the various Fordpass shortcuts on this Discord Channel. I use Siri voice command on my Apple Watch, as I approach my truck, to trigger unlock now because I'm so annoyed with how slow / inconsistent PAAK has become.

I developed a Siri automation shortly after getting my truck. Takes a little setup but has worked for over two years. Implements WAL with home detection. Uses official API via Alexa so won't stop working if Ford changes API (like has happened with the one you mentioned).

When I got the updated BCM and WAL a couple of months ago, I tried to like it, but ended up enabling the toggles so I could turn it off. Like you, I didn't like it locking at home.

True, it's been good for a while though.

I went that route to avoid the Alexa layer. I already use one voice assistant with a sketchy privacy background, I dont need another!

Why is the car locking in a home automatically such a hassle for people?
Why would I want my truck self locking in my garage?

I work afternoons. My wife works days. I get home around midnight, she's in bed sleeping. You don't see how the truck honking in my garage, which is right below my bedroom, is a problem?

The least Ford could do is give us the toggle with the update. The best solution would for Ford to give us an option for location services like charging to exclude the self locking feature at home.

For those that know the Ford modules and a little bit about how they work together can Ford get the GPS location to the right module to know whether or not it should lock? Can the BCM get GPS?

This is where Tesla and the central on board computer shines. All of the data is Sharable and usable between functions. It is truly the little things that make a difference. These reasons alone are why I’m concerned about Ford after abandoning their advanced research and development of their next vehicle compute.
