I’m hoping someone with experience here can help.

I’ve got the Ford branded retrax pro bed cover. It looks amazing, but sounds like I’m carrying a bucket of bolts. Unfortunately, I am not the original owner.

I would like to reduce the creaking, rattling squeaking noise - is there any maintenance that I can do myself to address it?

I already checked all the bolts, everything is tight. I installed it myself, so I am very confident it is installed correctly.

Double check the right side rear passenger seatback to see that the striker & loop is fully engaged, for months I've been suffering a mysterious rattle that I thought was only coming from the moonroof, I randomly discovered that the seatback was not fully locked in place, random road vibrations caused the striker & loop to rattle.

It seems that you need to pull on the black release strap to fully engage the lock.

Since then, I've reduced the rattling substantially.

Rattling from a bed cover is USUALLY from the clamps being loose - if tightening them doesn't fix it, and the cover is properly aligned, maybe it needs more foam padding somewhere touching the top or sides of the bed? But it could end up being something you just have to live with.

If you search "Ford retrax pro bed cover", you will find other owners who are noticing noise. Maybe contacting the manufacturer would be the best bet? If it is common, they should have heard that before and may have a fix.

This video goes through the installation by a purchaser (not a Ford dealership) so maybe there is something in there that will help? Install instructions are not always that clear and easy to follow.

I don't have a retrax, I bought a different brand tri-fold cover from Amazon (Tyger Auto brand) and one day I noticed some noise from the bed - it was the straps used for holding it closed when folded that were swinging loose in the back the plastic parts hitting the inside sides of the bed - easy enough to secure them so that wouldn't happen.

I've had my Retrax Pro XR since the day I bought the truck (installed it by myself in a Marriott parking lot in Quincy), so it's been over three years now and it's never made any noise whatsoever.

The only rattling I have (not metallic, more clunking) is probably? from the moon-roof, open/close it and it does away for a while.

Any chance something is loose inside the canister? Tap the bottom of it to see if it makes a noise.

I’ll double check the bolts. The only reason I heard it is bc I opened the rear access / panel window and heard the thing creaking and clunking. The truck is so quiet, I would never otherwise hear it.

When I lightly hit the cover, in a closed position i can hear the spool / track / wheels rattling.

I guess the wheels might be too small for the track they ride in to avoid some degree of rattle - if the were too big, rolling back and forth along the track could be difficult I guess.

Perhaps there is a way to pull the top down so the wheels contact the bottom of the track with more force than the road bouncing would affect, like, some sort of tie down/bungee cord inside the bed attached to the underside of the cover (somehow) and to the bed tie down brackets?

Close the rear window, turn up the radio. Fixed. :bandit:

The problem isn't the product (cover), it's your heightened sense of hearing due to the extremely quiet nature of an EV.
