Rotary Shifter Part Numbers

Is it safe to assume this won’t mess up any OTA or FDRS software updates to the GSM? Gonna pull the trigger on the injection part and was curious if doing a round of FDRS before the swap would be prudent. Obviously going to keep the stock shifter in case I ever need to get the truck serviced

I have had multiple OTAs and performed a couple of FDRS update sessions and Forscan tweaks with my rotary in place. Also had the truck at the dealership and had a pick up and delivery service, also a couple of at home services, all for recalls by my dealer's service techs. No issue with the rotary for anything. I wouldn't take the console and dash apart and put the original in just for service, that's overkill.

The only thing I couldn't get done is the original gearshift CSB. I have my original sitting in a box in my garage. I called the dealer and asked if I could bring the old gearshift in and swap it for the new version via the CSB. He said it needs to be installed to perform the CSB. I get notifications in my Ford app every 6 months or so telling me to schedule my gearshift CSB. Not really interested in tearing everything apart and putting it back together, so I ignore the notifications.

Ford sends a GSM update for your old gear shifter no longer installed.
Does it get applied to the rotary shifter? If so, does it mess it up?

Has a GSM OTA been sent out ever? Is it even capable to be OTA updated?

This is a common mod on ICE F150's as well as the Lightning. Might be prudent to ask on the f150gen14forum.com in their shifter mod thread as there are likely more numbers and more chances for someone that has experienced that specific issue.

I remember reading a post by @Mike G when he did this mod and he fiddled with FDRS to try and write the vin to it, or some routine like that. From what I recall, nothing happened, but hopefully he can shed some light.

Absolutely the GSM gets updated. My Mach-E got one last month.

Right, the Mach-e rotary shifter got updated for the Mach-e. Does the janky lever shifter in the F150 get updated or have the ability to be updated? I haven't seen one for my Lightning from OTA or FDRS. The CSB that "fixes" it to my knowledge is a replacement of the whole thing, not a software update.

If an update did get sent out for the lever shifter and you have something that isn't the lever shifter in that spot, what happens? Who knows....

Seeing as how even planned OTAs seem to not install correctly on pure stock trucks, probably something similar to that.
