Yesterday ended up being Settlement Day! :handsinair: After a few days of emails and phone calls, I was able to get them to increase the total settlement amount by about $1,500. Not as much as I'd hoped, but worth the effort to dispute their initial valuation. Final settlement is $44,735.

Now it's decision time.....What to buy? What to buy?
Iā€˜d say you kinda hit the jackpot. If you really loved the Lightning,
grab a left over ā€˜24 ER! Lariat or Flash and make a screaming deal with tax credit and 0% financing.
Ask FORD to send you a private offer too!

Tell me more about requesting a "private offer". Who exactly do you ask at Ford?

Update: Today I took a ride on the Allstate Roller Coaster! ? o_O

I started the day going to the service desk at my Ford Dealer. I told the Service Manager my story, showed him pics of the damaged truck, and asked for his advice on how best handle this. His response was that from his experience, the insurance company was naive in their assessment that it would be cheaper for them to repair the Lightning. Nevertheless, he recommended that their Ford Certified Collision Repair Center was best equipped to do the body work; And since they were nearby, they could easily coordinate any mechanical/battery/electronics issues discovered after the tear-down. Seemed to me to be the best available option for repairing the truck, so I started to proceed with that plan.

Then....Just as I finished up with the Service Manager, the Allstate adjuster called me. The timing really couldn't have been better. I told him I was at the Ford Dealer now talking with the Service Manager and I recounted my discussion with him. I mentioned all of the potential issues with the repairs and told him that the Ford Service Manager basically thought they were nuts to try to take on the repairs.

He told me to go ahead and contact the Collision Repair Center anyway and arrange with them to accept the truck and they would have it towed there. So I did.

Just as I was leaving the parking lot of the repair center, the adjuster called back. As I was telling him that I was just leaving the repair shop....He cut me off and said "Well, you won't be needing them because I talked to my manager and he agrees that there's probably more complexity there than we want to deal with so we're gonna total it. I've already emailed you our settlement breakdown" :handsinair:

I was running late for work and didn't have time to read it until the afternoon. The bottom line number...... ? wait for it...............About $42K including taxes and fees.

Well, that's a start! Not as lowball as I expected, but still not enough to get me to pre-crash value. Now the settlement negotiations begin. I'll be preparing a counter offer and sending it to him over the weekend. Hopefully I'll get a response sometime on Monday. Stay tuned....
Great read, feel like I'm watching a movie!

I recently went to Ford's site to shop for a Bronco and browsing around the Bronco pages, build configurator, and inventory search at some point I got a pop-up to enter my info for a private offer. Once you submit your information it's in their system under your name and email address and the dealer will see it on their end. It worked, that $2k sealed the deal for us to get the new Bronco. That on top of a dealer discount, Ford employee pricing, and generous trade-in offer made it a no brainer.

I have also randomly gotten a private offer in the mail before just from being in Ford's system as a past purchaser of a new Ford.

I don’t think Ford is in the market for totaled out vehicles lol

Just to clarify the private offer is not for the trade-in, it's a discount on the new car. In my case it was $2k off the price of the new Bronco, taken off the bottom line. It's "private" in that it's only offered to targeted customers.

Well, I’m approaching 5 weeks since the crash and still no payment from the insurance company. But I couldn’t tolerate commuting 80 miles in the Civic every day, so I ended up buying this yesterday:

Ford F-150 Lightning T-Boned Today. Is It Totaled? 1753972527242-9l

It’s a used 2024 F150 XLT 3.5L EcoBoost in Avalanche with about 10k miles. It was sold in April of this year, so it still has 32 months of warranty. It was a trade at a local Chevy dealer. Apparently the original owner needed more towing power for a big trailer so he traded it for a Chevy DuraMax. It seemed like a pretty good deal for how clean and well-equipped it is, so I jumped on it.

It wasn’t an easy decision to go back to an ICE truck. I couldn’t imagine that I’d like it as much as my Lightning, but I’m really happy with the truck and my decision. The only thing I don’t like (which is a pretty big deal) is paying for gas! But I love the range (640 miles with the 36 gal. tank) which theoretically will allow me to drive the 310 miles to my weekend home and back on one tank. I also anticipate buying a small camp trailer which the 3.5L Ecoboost and tow package should easily handle.

I have no regrets about buying my Lightning, but I’m also okay going back to an ICE truck for the next couple of years and watching how the EV market develops. I’m still a Lightning promoter and looking forward to seeing what Ford comes up with for the next generation.

I’m also reservation holder for a Slate truck, which I will most likely buy if it really happens.

That said, I’m still gonna be a regular here and looking forward to more Lightning travel logs and experiences. I really value the collective knowledge and appreciate all the input and advice. šŸ™šŸ¼
