Surprised they didn't just launch an upgraded wall connector with it built in.
This is just like Apple announcing features that Android had for years ahead.

I have had 2 of these installed with my Tesla Solar/Powerwall/Gateway system for like 2 years. They used to use the exact same functionality from an outfit named Neurio Technology. Neurio got bought by Generac and then Tesla replaced all their Neurio installs with Tesla Remote Meter units. Well that is what the techs said when they showed up one day and replaced both of mine when a Neurio failed on my system. The Gateway subpanel is still labelled Neurio.

Anyhow, it is my understanding that this functionality has been available for about a year now for Tesla Wall Chargers. Just another nail in the coffin for my Juicebox when my total house loads go up again or my Juicebox fails!!!

The ability for the wall connector to adjust the current on the fly has existed for years, and likely is just a software thing. What they announced is the Tesla official hardware to monitor the current on your incoming service and cut the current to you EVSE/wall connector dynamically based on load. This can't be built into the wall connector as this part of the system needs to be connected to your incoming service which is often in a completely different location from your wall connector.

My Wallbox Pulsar Plus also supports this functionality if I buy and install the Wallbox recommended current / energy meter and install it on my incoming service. I believe a number of other chargers also support this.

Cool product. Not an issue for me as I have a FCSP and a 200 amp service and panel - and space and water heating are gas, along with the dryer.
