I am writing this to share my experience with having the GSM in my 2024 Flash replaced under warranty. I know there's been a lot of folks swapping out the GSM with a dial shifter -- and that's an option I am considering. However, before doing that, I figured I would get the original one switched out and go from there. While I had no functional issues with the original GSM, I noted it had a lot of play forward and back. I also heard a weird grunting sound, like plastic rubbing on plastic, when I would shift from park to drive or vice versa. The new GSM is MUCH tighter and feels more solid. There's still a little bit of play forward and back, but not nearly as much as the previous GSM and I consider this perfectly normal.

So, for those of you that might be thinking about swapping out to a dial shifter, you might consider getting your GSM swapped out under warranty. TSB is attached.

As a complete aside, I was given a gas F150 XLT loaner, 4WD and 6.5ft bed, supercab. Let me tell you, that 10-speed transmission is total garbage and the engine is noisy and has a lot of vibrations. I don't know how anyone can like a gas vehicle once they drive an EV for a while. Once I got back into my Lightning, it was like heaven on earth comparatively. Wow!

I don't even like driving my other truck since I got the Lightning, it's just so much more pleasant to drive.

Thanks for the post. I’ve had zero issues, but agree it’s sloppy. I figured I would just leave it alone, but after your post I will get it done.

My 2020 EcoBoost had the 10 speed transmission and was smooth and pleasant. It developed a little bit of driveline clunk right towards the end but I knew my 2022 Lightning was soon on the way so I didn't bother having it addressed. Sounds like that loaner they gave you may have had a rough life.

The loaner was near new and had only 700 miles on it.

I talked to the service manager at my local Ford dealer in August to talk about the GSM replacement. He advised that the replacement part was on back order. He would call me every few weeks just to touch base so I knew it was not forgotten. Last Friday, he called to say the part was in and we scheduled the GSM replacement, Upper Ball joint recall, and a 10K service for this morning - WooHoo! He had said it would take a half day or so a the whole center floor console has to be removed.
This morning I dropped of my truck and about 7 hours later they called to say it was ready. Went over and picked it up. They even washed it (badly needed as I seldom wash any truck because I keep using them off road). Did not really notice much difference, but at least it's fixed. The 10K service cost me $38.
