Right before I left on a month long trip away from my beloved ‘24 Flash in late June, I encountered twice within a week the dreaded glowing service light with the warning “Powertrain/ Malfunction/Reduce…” and suspected the problem was with the Gear Shift Module as had been mentioned by many in this good forum. Since the truck drove just fine and both times the warnings went away the next day, I was just going to wait to bring it to the dealer when I return in August. While away, I’ve checked on the truck a few times via the app and just noticed the attached message under the Service page. (Btw, glad to report that 3 weeks away, only 1% drop after the 1st week.) Good for Ford to be proactively doing something about this. I hope that you’ve all received this same message…

My service advisor at the dealership told me that the replacement part for 25B09 is on "national back order" and there is no ETA on when the part will be available. Is everyone else hearing the same thing?
I was told back order with an ETA of 7/25 which was just under 2 weeks from when the part was ordered. We’ll see…

I just got mine replaced today, the dealer ordered it last week. So, unless something changed, or if not all dealers are treated the same, there is no national backorder.

Dang, yeah, might be. Don't see why the dealer would lie about this ... For what it's worth, the new shifter does seem less flimsy. (Maybe it's in my head, but I don't think so.) Good luck.

I called my local dealer yesterday to ask about getting this CSP done. Since I have already switched to the rotary shifter on my own, the service tech transferred me to the service manager to see what we could do, since he didn't know if he could swap it without being in the truck since I have "Modified it".

The first thing the service manager asked me was "What is a CSP?" Ummm, strike one....

After I read him the title of the CSP, he said "Oh, a recall?".....strike two....

A little more conversation ensued where I describe to him how I had replaced the shifter that is in the CSP with a rotary shifter. I asked if I could just bring my old shifter in the box and they could swap it out for the new part and call the CSP complete. He seemed very confused by the entire situation and ultimately said that he couldn't do it due to Federal regulations since it was a recall..... I again asked him if it's a recall or a CSP? He said they were both the same.... Strike three...

If anyone has done the rotary shifter swap, let me know if you were able to swap your old shifter under the CSP without having to reinstall it and bring your truck in. If so, I will look for a different dealer to work with.

The service manager is an idiot.

Recalls are safety related, CSPs are not.

What you want to do they cannot do - swapping parts. They MIGHT be able to put in the new GSM, with you giving the old one back to them to ship back to Ford. And they give you the rotary one back.

Hey look at the bright side, if you kept talking that service manager might have thrown in a free oil change.

I have the rotary shifter now and definitely don't want to swap back, seen too many comments here from owners who had issues with the replacements too. On the other hand, the number I've counted of owner-reported issues with the shifter post-swapout is zero. But if you really want to swap back and they say it can't be done with the "modified" part, you could put the OEM shifter back in if you have it (and as long as it doesn't brick the shifting, of course).

I'm absolutely NOT interested in switching back to the stock shifter, especially just to have the dealer replace it, then come home and switch back to the rotary. Was hoping I could just bring in the old CSP eligible shifter and come home with the new "reliable" one and put it on the shelf for some future unknown reason where I need to install the big bulky clunky shifter again. I'll pass.

The rotary shifter should have come stock IMHO.

I just found this thread on the CSP-25B09 Replace Floor Console GSM letter. I posted the following in the Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power thread where most people seeing this Ford app error are having batteries go bad.

Ford App says Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power but dash display reads 100% power available no noticeable decrease in power, but not pushed hard. (seems extreme for a bad shifter)

Service vehicle soon, Orange Wrench on dash display, 7435.7 miles on a 2024, April VIN, G in the 12th position.

Forscan picks up a Code: (this is pretty damming)

P0929 – Gear Shift Lock Solenoid/Actuator Control Circuit ‘A’ Range/Performance

Additional Fault Symptom:

- Commanded Position Not Reachable

Status:

- DTC Present at Time of Request

- Malfunction Indicator Lamp is On for this DTC

Module: Gear Shift Module

This is probably the fifth time this “Service vehicle soon” has popped up starting in June and each time it has been in the high 90s F or 100s F as displayed on the instrument panel. This last time it happened after I stopped the truck, turned it off, plugged in the OBDII reader, turned the truck back on, the orange wrench was still on, took a reading in Forscan, found the shift lock error. I pushed the Shifter fold down button and nothing happened but a few wiggles of the shifter with some not working right noises. I scheduled an appointment with my local dealer and let them know about the CSP-25B09 Replace Floor Console GSM letter and asked that they order the part for the appointment.

Hope this helps others, glad it is not a battery module. If one designs an EV, make each battery module easy to swap out, kind of like my TV remote.

Yes, my replacement GSM is still on back order as well. Yesterday I got the orange wrench on a fairly cool day, 85F or so.
