The calculator is accurate on my tesla from last weeks cold snap- but 2.1m at 20 degrees seems like quite a stretch for the Lightning?

Yes, 2.1m/kW at that temp seems like a bit of a stretch at 20dF.

Here in Florida several times a month wedo a 250 mile round trip to our remote cabin. My Tesla wall connectors, on each end, report average of 60 kWh used, (120 kWh round trip) or 2.1 m/kWh. It takes 2 hrs and 12 minutes each way. That‘s with cruise control set to 62 mph and OAT of 70dF. My average speed is slightly faster than yours.

We use 45% of battery capacity each way. It varies between 40%-50% depending on traffic, rain, wind etc. What it really interesting is that we use the same battery percentage with our Tesla model Y‘s for the same trip. Of course it takes much longer to recharge the Lightning after that trip.

Another factor in cold weather (more apparent below about 20F) that I have noticed and tried to measure is an effective decrease in available battery capacity by at least several kWh. Preconditioning helps, but on longer drives I still notice it. I am sure there is a DC fast charger along the route that would alleviate any concerns for those cold days.

That's still enough time over two days preceding the twice a week long drives, set strict time frames for your home location charging scheme to minimize costs, always be plugged in when parked and the schedule will take care of the situation. If you run into a shortage, started couple hours early during peak rates.

Did I understand that the 22,23 can charge at a faster amount if I get the amped up charger? I need to hit the treads about the heat pump- my light research suggested that it has a narrow window to make an impact, but another thread said it lessen the cabin load from 7kw to 1kw on a long haul.

I have had a 24 Flash since mid December in Iowa. I just putz around town and maybe to Des Moines once a month. My guess o meter has never been any where near 250 miles of range at 90% charge. It’s been pretty cold. Maybe it will in the spring summer when it’s warmer. And I have reset driving history numerous times. Guess I’m just a sucky EV driver.

Yes ER trucks can charge at a theoretical rate of 19.2 KW, reality is about 18 kW, net to the battery ~16.4 KW

At this moment I'm doing an 8% to 100% balancing routine, this the rates and ETA for 100%

You will NOT benefit from an 80 amp EVSE, your 2024 can only process 48 amps!
If you have not bought the 2024 yet, look for new old stock deals on a 2023 ER!

Below freezing 180 miles is really touch and go with an ER, you are trying for 250-260 miles on basically what I'd figure 240 is your max in cold weather.

If there's a Tesla station on way then plan for a $5 power charge as a plan B and you'll be fine. But dont leave home without the NACS adaptor.

I'm a fan of the 23s... the "fan" of the 24s drives me nuts everytime I walk by the trucks and they are "running"... aka the heat pump.

The dual chargers are also priceless if you have that tight charging window or quick turnarounds.

It {22 or 23 ER} would improve cycle time when recharging, I wouldn't worry so much about the PTC vs HP heating system, I haven't seen enough real world data from members, but I'm thinking the savings are marginal.

BTW, not to divert the thread, but here is the results of my 92% charge addition, finished at 0436

125 kWh of traction energy to the battery, from the grid 136 kWh
Original estimate was to be done by 0306 but it took another 1 and a half hours for balancing.
It's been a while since I did a deep cycle balancing routine.
