Anyone else recently had issues with the Apple Wireless CarPlay disconnecting for no reason? Mine started a week ago and is getting progressively worse. Done the usual stuff; reset phone and rebooted Sync. Took out the phone on Bluetooth and reinstalled. Kinda at my wits end now.

I find CarPlay in the truck to be finicky. Some times will not connect at all, even with cable. Other times will connect but does not resume playback. And then occasionally it will pick back up where it left off without issue. Kind of annoying.

recently on a road trip it took 4-5 minutes of driving for it to connect and start showing maps. Thankfully I knew the basic directions and just started driving with the hopes that it would reconnect.

this truck is my first experience with wireless CarPlay, so I do not know if this is a Ford thing, or just a common issue with CarPlay.

If you have an iphone and have upgraded to ios 26, that is the problem. There has been many reports of this problem since ios 26 came out. I don’t have this problem in the Lightning but it is a problem in my other car. It has effected some cars brands more then others. There is supposedly a fix coming out with iOS 26.1.

As an anecdotal data point, I just finished a 900 mile round trip using SiriusXM, ABRP, and Apple maps the whole time with zero issues. iPhone 17 Pro Max on iOS 26.1.

That has been a constant issue, my guess is it is a Blue Tooth issue since the same thing happens to people with Android phones etc.

My old MP3 players BlueTooth connections to the Lightning were pretty poor, lots of drop-outs and disconnects - a lot of YouTube videos on the subject as well. (I tried my Zune, iPod and portable XM tuner and all had these BT issues.)

There was supposedly a recent update that helped but I have not tried my BT devices to see if it has improved - I switched to using an SSD with my music on it (drive must be formatted in xfat) and plugged into the data USB and that works fine.

Yep! That’s when this all started. Actually I upgraded to the new iOS a couple weeks ago but this disconnect began about a week ago. I wouldn’t say up to this point of ownership the wireless CarPlay has been flawless but this issue is so constant that it’s definitely smelling of a software bug.

Bryce, so when I took delivery of my truck I had no issues with the disconnect. That was June of this year. About two months in, the problems started, and in addition to the CarPlay trouble, during phone calls there was interference of some sort. Dealer ran a diagnostic found a bad module of and had the truck two weeks. Once that was replaced I had no more issues until a week ago. Hoping it’s a software issue that’ll be corrected in future updates but I’m wondering if it’ll have to go back to the dealer.

Not just a Ford thing.
Our Toyota Prius has trouble with my wife's iPhone - she gave up trying. Again, BT connection.
One of my children who drives a Subaru also has troubles with Carplay.
Just look at YouTube for example and you will find lots of videos about the troubles.

Sad, because my old iPod worked flawlessly with a USB connection to my 2012 Nissan Leaf - Ford Lightning will not work with the iPod USB and the BT connection is problematic - Apple wants me to use a $1400 phone to listen to music? Forget it.

My work around is an old FM transmitted interface called the iTrip. Need an audio/earphone jack output though and Apple thought it was a good idea to eliminate that from iPhones - go figure. I tune my FM radio to an unused station and the iTrip broadcasts what ever audio it gets (iPod, Zune, XM Roady, etc) to the FM receiver - no disconnects no dropouts and no interference.

But the SSD I use is a lot less wires to deal with than the iTrip which needs a power connection, and an audio input connection - with the XM I also need the sat antenna wires, it gets to be a bunch of spaghetti...

SSD is one wire to the USB. The only problem is I have collected so many music files it is hard to make a selection - sometimes I just use shuffle. Interfaces nicely with the Lightning SYNC 4.

Do you mean 26.01 or are you running a beta 26.1?

OP: In my experience, iOS 26.01 still is slightly wonky with regard to CarPlay, but it cleared up the majority of problems connecting I had with iOS 26.0.

I had issues early on, but mine had been fine for about 2 years. Recently when I put the truck in reverse it disconnects or pauses.

I guess it doesn't want the music to distract you while backing up?

Were you listening to any of these tunes by any chance?

Frightened Rabbit - "My Backwards Walk": A song that explores a journey or life lived in reverse.

The Cardigans - "Erase/Rewind": A song with lyrics that evoke a desire to go back and change things.

Toni Braxton - "Un-break My Heart": A classic power ballad that pleads to reverse a breakup.

Thursday - "Time's Arrow": A song with a title that directly references the idea of time moving backward.

Marine - "Life in Reverse": A song whose title directly refers to the concept of life moving backward.

Maximo Park - "My Life in Reverse": Another song with a title that suggests a life lived in reverse.

Artful Dodger - "Re-Rewind": A song whose title explicitly calls for a rewind

Or these that used backwards recordings:
  • Queen - "Another One Bites The Dust": Some believe the chorus contains backward messages, such as "It's fun to smoke marijuana" when played in reverse.
  • The Beatles - "Helter Skelter": Famously associated with Charles Manson, who claimed a message was spoken to him when played backward.
  • Missy Elliott - "Work It": Features a prominent section of reverse-sung lyrics, a well-known example of reverse effects in music
