A lot of the Ford vehicles I’ve rented recently (including extended family, Lincoln etc) requires my iPhone to be plugged in to utilize CarPlay. Does anyone know if the F150L allows wireless CarPlay or if it also needs to be plugged in?

Correct - wireless CarPlay. It can be a little slow and clunky though. Mine has not wanted to reconnect automatically every time. I have to select it.

I'm also new to CarPlay. I'm not sure why I want to, but I've also connected the phone using traditional Bluetooth. I wanted to see what was up. It doesn't do both at the same time. You can connect to Bluetooth like we have for years and get phone calls and music or you can connect to CarPlay to get the Apple interface displayed. Just found it odd that both won't stay connected at the same time.

My Bronco has wireless carplay, I do have to press the button to get it to connect every time I get in the truck. My Chevy work truck connects automatically. It’d be nice if the Ford system connected without a button press.

I haven’t had any issue with wireless CarPlay, it automatically connects when I get it. It’s been a joy.

I felt that way last year. I just used Bluetooth everywhere, including my Tesla. I travel a lot for work and over the last year I grew to really enjoy it. It makes life easier to know a single UI instead of trying to learn a new car within 5 min of getting into the car.

In addition to that, just app preferences. Using Waze instead of built in Nav systems. My preferred music apps. It’s more about familiarity than anything.

Wireless CarPlay works flawlessly on the Pro’s 12” screen. Just did a 350+ mile trip yesterday and it never had an issue.

Wireless Android Auto has been spotty, occasionally refusing to connect and occasionally stuttering audio.
