Hey everyone,

I've had my truck about one year now with 7000mi.

I've had a really weird quirk occur 2x out of the blue within the last two weeks. It seems like my truck has a mind of its own.

The first time I went out to my truck..key fob in hand to retrieve an item from the back seat. I had not driven the truck at all that day. Last trip was day prior. Approach lights came on as normal. Door unlocks when I touch the handle as normal. Open the door and I'm greeted with a chime. The same one you get if you leave your lights on or if you were to leave the car running. (I didn't do either. I always turn off my truck--it would have turned off after 15min anyway. Also I always leave my headlights on auto. I've never even turned them on manually). I sat in drivers seat a bit confused. Pressed start button. Truck "started" and headlight icon was lit even though it was daytime. Turned headlight switch to on..then off..then back to auto. Everything reset. Turned off and exited vehicle. No chimes..door locked normal.

Fast forward to today...I've driven a full week back and forth to work..normal errands completely normal. Leaving today for an errand. Truck was locked in my driveway overnight. As a I approach, the daytime running lights and light bar illuminate as normal..about a second later the headlights come on. Tried locking and unlocking the car via fob, then keypad...walked away about 50ft to the other side of my yard way out of range. Lights never went off...tailights, license plate lights, etc. all ON as if I left my headlights on. I go back to the truck and its the same thing as before-- chime, light on dash. Only way to get it off is to cycle the light.

Truly weird. I thought it might be some anti-theft thing..but unlocking;locking the doors does not reset it nor does it reset by timing out.

No I'm not crazy...

That is odd, I'd try a 12V reset. Disconnect the negative battery terminal of the 12V battery, wait a minute and reconnect.

Give it a few days, there might be an update working in the background. I noticed some strange behaviour this weekend also.

I suspect that this another symptom of the headlight switch issue. Your truck would have been built right about the time Ford started using “good” switches. (November 2022). You probably still got the old one.

Turn your headlight switch Off. Then back to Auto.

Probably not this, but make sure your windshield is clean and clear so the light sensor isn't getting a false reading!

Turning the switch to OFF, then back to auto resolved the issue when it occurred. My truck was built sept 2022.

Also-- normal start this morning. No issues or oddities.

Off, then back to Auto is the normal (temporary) fix for the bad switch. September builds definitely had the bad switches.

I’ve seen TSBs on this (SSMs, actually) for the Mach-E, Maverick, and Bronco, but not the Lightning. TBH, I haven’t really looked since my 23 isn’t affected. Perhaps someone else on here knows more.

Found this on the regular f150 gen14 forum:
https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/thr...1-2022 F-150,logic within the headlamp switch.

Manufacturer Communication Number: SSM 51058

Summary

Some 2021-2022 F-150 vehicles may exhibit a condition of intermittent headlamp operation while the vehicle is OFF and have diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1533 stored in the body control module (BCM). This may be due to the internal logic within the headlamp switch. Switch and/or module replacement will not resolve this condition. Headlamp operation is not affected while the vehicle is ON. A new headlamp switch is currently under development to correct this condition. Let the customer know they can continue to drive the vehicle and schedule a follow-up appointment in December 2022, when parts are expected to become available. Follow up with the customer to confirm the appointment once OASIS is updated with the repair information.

I’ve had this on my 2022 also. Thought it was just my imagination! I did cycle the lights to get it to go off and assumed I had somehow hit the light switch with my knee.

It's not just you...and I know for sure I didn't hit the switch...

What rock have I been under?? This is the first I heard of this and I could never pinpoint why my truck would chime like the OP said... especially with my September build.
