XLT OEM Bed Lights Install

My XLT didn’t come with bed lights which is ridiculous so I decided to research and install them myself. I know I could tap in with a cheap led light strip but I like oem even if it costs more.

I bought the below parts through tasca which was the cheapest I could find.

I pried the bed light covers off and fed the wiring in and down the side of the bed. You can use a screwdriver or trim removal tool. You can reach your hand in to feed the lamp switch and led in the correct spots.

Once underneath you’ll see a dummy plug end on each side of the bumper. These will also need to be removed.

Passenger Side

Once removed the plugs look like this.

Connect both sets of plugs into their respective mating plugs. There is one location to push the wiring Christmas tree in on the driver side and two on the passenger side.

Once assembled you’ll need to open up Forscan and go into the BdyCM module, not the as built, and enable the below options.

Once enabled you now have working bed lights. Enjoy!

Will any Forscan OBD2 work or do you need one specifically for mods. Meaning are some made to just view codes and settings while others allow modifications?

There are a few recommended OBD adapters on the Forscan site. I have the OBDlink EX.

Are those OEM lamps LED?

Yes they are. They are the same lights in the frunk.

Coming from a 2009 F-150 XLT, so not familiar with bed lights. When do they come on? Assuming some automatic times and also a manual switch as well??

I have no idea about the pro as I haven’t seen one. And at least for my XLT without zone lighting they only come on when I push the switch.

I just ordered everything you listed for my XLT with zone lighting, it'll be interesting to see if it shows up in the menu after enabling it in Forscan.

Just an FYI on doing this mod. You can save some money by purchasing the LED lights on Amazon. The wiring and switch you’ll still need to buy from a Ford parts dealer. If you want to stick with all genuine Ford parts no problem but you get 2 for the price of one on Amazon. It’s just a choice if you want. I saw that as well, my only hesitation would be whether the tint truly matches or not. It would be really annoying (to me at least) if the color temps were slightly different compared to OEM/the rest of the truck.

Ordered everything yesterday to do this, OBDLink EX dongle arrived same day from amazon. Tasca's standard shipping is apparently hand delivered by foot looking at their estimated delivery dates lol.
