ID4 comes with 2 or 3 years of free EA charging if I remember correctly.
According to the guy (super nice, following form) at the charger in Quartzsite, the 2023 M/Y buyers (of which he was one) are the last to get that.

The scam is it’s unlimited 30 minute sessions. Once you’re past 30 mins, they start charging real money, so you have to babysit it and stop, unplug and start to refresh the timer.
Games like Milton-Bradley.

Love that he has figured out how to scam the system and that individual may have more common sense but I have to frequent that Quartzite charger and a que regularly builds up. Free is great but when you get enough charge to get to the next town full
Of chargers and or your destination. Move on please!
(sorry. Venting again)

Sorta reminds me of the limit of 10 gallons of gas during the Energy Crisis of the 70's! :ROFLMAO:

Like many on here, I have had a wide variety of experiences. On our first road trip in early August the Lightning was so new virtually no one had seen one. So tons of questions, lots of comparisons to everything else that was charging and a generally friendly environment. Granted, we also had a guy come out of the McDonalds and bang on the window and tell us to get out of the truck because “those things” blow up routinely and all the auto manufacturers knows it. 🙄🤣

Only free for the first 30 minutes to avoid this exact situation.
The 30-minute timer resets If you unplug and restart the charge for both the ID.4 and the Ioniq 5.

These unlimited offers were a bad idea and it's creating congestion in already strained Electrify America infrastructure. Many of the people with this deal are charging at Electrify America when they could just plug in at home.

One thing I get a lot is "how much does one of these cost?" I haven't found a good response as everyone is quite repulsed by the 80k+ figure.
Me: “$32k out the door after all tax credits”
Then: “Oh really? WOW!”
Me: “Yea but they they raised the price now, this same truck is now $60k”

Being from Tahoe and not getting the Electrician out before the snow dumped I’m having to power up at the only Electrify America in town. I finally met a Lightning owner and talked the whole 35 minutes. If there was ever a West Coast Joe Pesci, it was this guy. Funny as hell and down to earth. Found out he was a retired plumber, pilot with an experimental Lance plane, has a boat in Tahoe in the Keys and loves his Lightning. Much better, than the door knob personality’s I run into from time to time.

If you’re not cheating you’re not trying hard enough. I for one applaud the exploit the VW owners have devised. Remember it only lasts for three years and no one else is getting it beyond the 2023 model year, so it will go away by the end of 2026 at the latest. It’s a temporary blip in the matrix.

We'll survive but the next few years are going to be brutal until charger availability meets demand.

At the very least EA could enforce a significat refractory period between free 30 minute fill ups. They also aren't enforcing penalties for idle time at the moment.

That tracks with what WV guy was saying last night. He said h got very close to the ten minute mark and got an email from EA saying that he cut it close and penalties are a possibility. Paraphrasing of course.

Additional benefits of random conversation with peeps is generating quality HUMINT.

They aren't enforcing it AFAIK. I assume they will start cracking down if they notice it's being abused.

Okay. I just have to come
Out and say it. Why does EVERY WV id4 and EVERY KIA/Hyundai think they need to charge to 100% ever freaking time they are at a DCFC station!?!?!?!?
I noticed the same thing.

I'm okay with those who leave their vehicle while charging, as long as it isn't for more than the time it is high rate charging. Going for a coffee shortens the line at the coffeeshop. Two birds, one stone. :ROFLMAO:

It's got four wheels - Waiting on my '22 Lightning
That's called "crop dusting".
I thought crop dusting was a bit broader....like letting the silent ones out as you're walking by.

Guy I used to work with introduced me to the "land mine" where you let a good one into the cloth pillows of a couch or recliner and get up slowly offering the seat to someone who immediately sits on you and sets it off.

He was not right in the head.......and man I miss working with him.
