I hope this happens sooner than later. I, for one, have no issues paying more for a priority reservation while on a road trip.Don't worry, the charging networks will come up with creative ways train (and monetize) the simple courtesies we're talking about. Demand charges, queuing systems, priority reservations, premium subscription tiers and time limits are already being piloted or rolled out.
People will still have the opportunity to be misanthropic, but they'll have to pay more for the privilege.
My Lightning is my work truck, my Taycan is my road tripping car. It will charge 60kWh in 20 minutes or less, which is all I need to get to the next charging location. I would gladly pay extra to get a guaranteed charging spot at a functional charger while doing my regular drives from Denver to Scottsdale in the winter, or Denver to Jackson, WY in the summer.
That being said, I like to think that I can still be a nice, courteous person while paying for the privilege of getting access to a charger more quickly when I need it. I would never, EVER, charge my vehicle to 100% at a public charger, unless I absolutely needed too, and I would explain why to anyone if they had to wait for me. I am not about bad karma.
