Slight correction to the above statement — Affected build dates are October 14, 2021 through March 28, 2023.

I guess this means that pre-production and all retail/fleet sale trucks built through March 28, 2023 with rear light bars are affected.
oops! i did see that it affects 16,000 vehicles

I'm not sure why, but all you have to do in the mean time is take the tail gate off. Lariat and Platinums have duplicate back up lights - they are on the edge of the tail light, hidden by the flared ends of the tail gate. Take it off, or leave it down and you are golden.

Or better yet, give us tailgates without the silly light bar. Obviously, the designer missed the lesson on KISS - Keep it Simple Stupid!!!

Yep- posted on this somewhere a few months back. I truly had not noticed that there were two different tailgates until @LUXMAN pointed it out when our trucks were side by side.

However, this is the kind of stupidness that adds literally thousands of wasted dollars to the cost of a vehicle. It doesn't change anything dramatically, it doesn't make a major differentiation between the trucks, it does nothing but add major stupid dollars to the cost of development and purchase.

Taillights reported to be $1000 or more, but Ford didn't have to develop and make one, no they did it twice, one for Pro/XLT and one for the Lariat/Platinum. Same for all of the sheet metal on the tailgate. They better continue to enjoy their #1 truck position while they can, because it won't last forever like this.

Good call out, so Ford has been doing this and adding unnecessary costs to the trucks for years. I can't determine for sure here, but at least it looks like and I believe even recent years the tailgate was likely the same, they just added badging, etc to make an upper end truck look different. Basic tailgate was the same.

With our trucks it is full duplication of sheet metal and tail lights. I would have to guess that there are a large number of parts and part of what went into the release a month or so back that Ford was reducing parts by 2000. I'm pretty sure they counted every screw in that count, but would be hard to believe they can reduce 2000 parts from a single model, so I figure that count is between trim levels too and reduction of duplicate parts for different models.

So apparently the issue is that there are microscopic cracks in the reverse light segments of the lightbar; the section below the release handle I guess. And water then gets in after thermal cycling makes the cracks bigger, which eventually leads to the LEDs crapping out (technical term).

I've checked mine over with a magnifier and cannot find anything at all in the way of a crack, and I routinely (twice a week at least) run mine through the carwash and have no water intrusion that I can detect. I'm wondering if this is actually a manufacturing problem with one of the vendors or if it's something that is caused by handling or installation.

My patience wore out and I cancelled the deal. The dealer is giving me a full refund.
Nice tantrum. Now someone else is going to enjoy your truck in a week and a half.

They’re probably gonna have sex in it.

If it was for sale I would have bought it. The recall prevents them from selling it to anyone. They can't even give it away. ETA on the light bar is Q4 but they have to replace it on 16k vehicles so early next year? I actually initiated the connection to Ford Pass on my phone. it's sitting in their back (fenced in lot) it's gonna sit there for a long time.

So, the battery fire delay for me and a bunch of other folks was a blessing in disguise. My truck was scheduled to be built in February 2023, but because of the fire got delayed until April 2023. So, no lightbar recall for me. Hurray!

Yup. In my case, I’ve had the light bar replaced and will have to do so once again. And right now, it’s in the shop because the Frunk won’t open due to a bad strut.

Just received my recall notice about this yesterday. A sort of “do nothing and wait” message while they source the replacement components. Said I can continue to drive.

After waiting 4 1/2 months with virtually zero communication on when my fully built (on 2/5) lightning would ship, now with me less then an hour from picking it up it's on hold just like in February with absolutely no idea when I can get it.

My patience wore out and I cancelled the deal. The dealer is giving me a full refund.
I'm so sorry for your experience.
