Not to be pedantic but a huge reason I wanted an EV (besides fuel cost) was a frunk and not having to worry about the power plant under the hood. I'm done with the oil changes.

FWIW ...... Ive worked comercial construction for over 35 yrs and my last 3 brand new vehicles were 1999 F150 Lariot 5.4L stepside..... to a 2015 Chevy Volt ..... back to a f150 but the EV XLT ER

If it wasn't for the truly advanced for it's time Volt experience (which had features like walkaway locking and flawless software integration which my 2023 Lightning does not) ..... I likely wouldn't even have considered the Lightning. That Volt made a huge impact upon my perceptions on EV's.

So much so, that when I totalled my Volt in late 2023, if new Volts were still available with bigger batteries, I would of happily of purchased one. Chevy dropped the ball when they discontinued the Volt IMO

These new Ramchargers fill that same gap and allow people to test the water before jumping in .... especially during these times where the anti-EV rhetoric has been both heavily politicized and propagandized, largely using social media ...... So much so, it's not a jump of logic to speculate there's some orchestration going on by a behemoth industry that feels their bottom line may eventually be threatened.

I'm not a big fan of Dodge ..... But i think this is a brilliant move on their part ...... They understand that perception is everything and for the reasons above, public perceptions are being manipulated in ways that only first hand experience will effectively mitigate.

I have always been a fan of hybrid. Not the best engine however should work well in the application, constant rpm, easy to keep emissions and fuel consumption to a minimum. Good heat source. Hyway tractors moving this direction.

Yes, early reports said it's a Pentastar V6. 130 kW. It's for towing, so weight doesn't matter much.

Its going to be the worst of both worlds and I hope Ford does not go down this path.

If you drive around town 90% of the time, you have an engine doing what gas engines hate most. Sitting around doing nothing. Most places have ethanol in their fuel, that will be absorbing moisture out of the air.

If you tow long distance most of the time, you are only going to get the benefits of an EV for maybe 100 miles. Then you will have a less efficient gas over electric drivetrain. You would be more efficient with a mechanical drivetrain. I’m sure it would act as a hybrid at this point, but that doesn’t change the equation for long OTR trips.

Battery tech is getting much better. The need for something like this will be the exception rather than the norm. People ask if I like the lightning (obviously), but to carry the conversation I usually tell them that 99.9% of truck owners would benefit from as compared to their ICE. People somehow believe that the price tag which is nearly the same for a similarly equipped ICE, is the big issue. Guess the math don’t math for me the same way. It usually comes down to they don’t know enough and become skeptical. The faster charging capability on the road for public use will also make things much more interesting in time. Being able to charge as fast as you would get gas isn’t here yet, but it’s getting close or something comparable.

Not talking about commercial big hauling trucks or even contractor applications, but for the normal dude/dudette that needs their truck to tow their weekend toy hauler occasionally, the boat, the lawn mower or even a rented skid steer, I find it difficult to choose an ICE. The roughly 11 bucks to charge at home from almost dead is pretty hard to beat ( maybe like a diesel Jetta if you’re making biodiesel yourself?).

I think the reev is neat and probably would be better for a semi truck, it’s sort of what trains do anyway which are about the best and most efficient way to move freight.

I’d wager that Ford is going to go the EREV route like this when (if ?) they do a F150 Lightning refresh in 2028. They’ll then offer the fully BEV version of a pickup with a smaller, ranger sized truck.
