You're 100% right about blocking the work surface. As it sits in my model right now, the ball on the mount is just proud of the top surface, but below the actual trim level on the truck. The work surface would fold down no problem with nothing attached. Doesn't look like enough clearance with a charger attached.

I considered moving the mount further down, but I wanted to keep some storage functionality.

Haven't figured out a design that's win-win yet. This may be an option for people that don't care about the work surface or have trucks without. Will need to think on it more.

Yes, I do think it's a great option if you're not worried about the work surface. The AMPS mount does give a lot of flexibility in terms of having a solid mount, but lots of options for what you actually put there.

I really like it too. It's Elegoo PETG-GF. Runs great in my Centauri Carbon printer with the hardened steel nozzle.

So I forgot to circle back to this. I did clean the model up a bit, pushed the rear wall of the bin back a bit for a little more room under the mount. I put a couple up on my shop that will include the 17mm ball mount. https://polymerbuilt.etsy.com

I have an AMPS to Dual-T and a Dual-T to 17mm ball on the way from Arkon mounts that should be here tomorrow. This was my idea for quick removal if someone still wanted to use the work surface.

Well, looks like Manion went the nuclear route and DMCA'd everyone on Etsy selling any Lightning rotary mount for infringing on intellectual property.

If anyone wants one of mine with the cupholder, DM me and we can work something out. I still have 4 or 5.

Not sure if I'll challenge it or not.

@PolymerBuilt - Bummer, especially since the competing models getting DMCA'd are not even based on his design (they're complete remodels).

I printed one of my own and also purchased one of Manion's to compare quality and there is no comparison.

Appreciate the work he's put in - He's doing a great service for those that can't print their own, but the print quality will not fool anyone that the part is OEM.

Yeah, I took the time to make something, that at least I thought, was distinct enough not to be considered a copy. Some shops were selling the freely available models out there.

100% agree with you on appreciating their work and options. They didn't align with exactly what I wanted in shape/function/finish so I put mine out there for others as well.

Not sure if youre getting the sales to make it worth it but if so, I would vote "hell yeah", fight it!

Challenge it because principals matter. He doesn't own these designs. Can you just DMCA him back? Alternatively, can you just sell yours on ebay instead?

I did end up challenging. We'll see how it plays out.

Set up a Shopify page, but eBay isn't a bad idea either.
