Well a full headlight replacement fixed the codes and auto high beams and left low beam are all back to functioning normally.

The cost was $2100 most of which was the headlight ($1800). I had searched on eBay and it looked like new headlight could be had for ~$800, and on YouTube there is a video of lightning bumper removal which gets through all the steps to remove the headlight. For me the ~$1K extra cost over doing it myself was worth it for the warranty that comes with the dealer in case it blows or breaks again. That’s the problem I have no idea why this broke.
You made a good case for the extended warranty which I did today thanks to this thread. For anyone considering it, get the extra lighting option as well.

Here is what I believe is the removal for the Lightning. Pretty simple - once you remove the front bumper and frunk!
Ah crap......I forgot what forum I was on. :ROFLMAO:

Turns out oempartsonline is a "sort of" scam. They will take your order and your money, then pass it off to someone else. Sometimes you get the part, sometimes you don't. They gave the name of a Chevy dealer that my order was supposedly going to. Called them directly, got bounced around, finally got to the "right person" and when I said it was a Ford part they said I had to talk to the warehouse, and they would never answer the phone. So no go.

I did find the part on car-parts.com. Contacted the seller directly, sold me a used headlight assembly for $600 including tax and shipping. Installed it and it works!!

SUCCESS!! Got the part from a seller on car-parts.com. Installed it using the manuals that y'all had sent me. Works 100%!

auto high beam indicator - check
auto high beams - check
lights now steer around corners again - check
no codes or warnings - check

I would like to write this up for anyone else so situated - as I took a couple shortcuts that I think would be useful. My first inclination is to write this up as a google doc - I can include my pics and annotate them etc. Any other suggestions for the best way to write it up?

Thanks everyone for the help! You guys rock!!

Attached are the instructions from the workshop manual to fist remove the radiator grill and then the headlamp. I don't think swapping out the headlamp alone requires programming; only the modules, but not 100% sure.
This is very helpful information. Thanks for all your help and for taking the time to share.

You're welcome, but check out this post that was posted after mine as I posted the F150 instructions and not the Lightning:

https://www.f150lightningforum.com/forum/threads/auto-highbeams-not-working.31090/post-612776
I just did this and took two shortcuts:

1. you do not need to remove the entire trim piece just above the bumper. It is enough to remove one side, assuming you are only replacing one headlamp.

2. there is a small piece of black plastic still in the way. Its only function is to support ONE of the 15+ clips that hold on that trim piece. I sawed this piece off with a hacksaw. If you don't do that, you WILL have to remove the entire bumper.

When I get some time I hope to write up what I did, with some pics.
