Well let’s hope Scout is successful. That may be my next vehicle.
Funny you mention that, I was thinking the same thing and was on their site a couple hours ago signing up for email updates. Their pickup model is said to offer (at least as written now) either a BEV or en EREV... and I don't want no EREV, give me more battery and less components.

Of course its happening, but the people don't have a choice. You choose, want a "free market" or a "dictated market".
Can I choose a regulated market where government power is used to protect citizens from the negative externalities of corporate actions.

I am not sure what to say other than Mr. Farley appears to be a very weak leader, who has been unable to improve vehicle quality, and who flips flops strategy and execution in response to the slightest shift in the direction of the wind.

Most obvious is how he choreographs his future failures now so he doesn’t have to take accountability later - instead he can point the finger. I have been listening to him for three years now, and he does a brilliant job of preparing everyone for upcoming failure [ “Chinese car companies are better”, “we are being forced to make non-gas cars”]

It was Ford’s decision years ago to stop making affordable cars (EVs were barely on the radar).

It was Ford’s decision to globalize supply chain, and in the case of aluminum, to be practically sole sourced.

It was Ford’s decision to announce a $40k Lightning and then sell only builds at $70k and up for a long time.

You mean like what us libtards want, a government that works for everyone ... It looks like that ain't happening!

Althought I would like to take America back to the good ol' days when the extremely wealthy paid high taxes or setup foundations or universities etc etc but there's too much money in the system now.

I don't think Ford understands what Lightning owners want.....
Ford has already sold a truck to Lightning owners. Their target is for those that did not buy a lightning.

If they get something like CATL’s Naxtra sodium battery in there, with 10,000 cycle life and 100% SOC charging, and do joint development with Toyota to get reliability under control, you may still be able to have the gas engine off for most of it's life. I am still in EV only camp.

Do you know where the onboard generator will be located? And will there be a setting to be able to drive in pure EV mode with the generator turned off, which lets drivers choose when they need it or not?
Great questions. I will find answers (if I can) and get back to the group.

I’m gonna guess the generator will be the 2.7 ecoboost, 27gal tank and 60-65kw battery. Ford is watching what Stellantis is doing with the Ram 1500 Rev

The upside will be the Pro Power Onboard and how long you can power “things”. (Like the current F150 Hybrid 3.5 Powerboost) but also seems redundant

Oh I just realized, this will kill 2 vehicles, the F150 hybrid and Lightning.

Im trying to catch up on all the replies only 5 pages in so far... but is anyone else excited for the jailbreak/mods and possible future changes you could theoretically do to these lightnings...
once your out of service and drive it till the end (research over the past year has talked about the minimal battery degradation reports on lithium batteries).
Potential to upgrade the batteries as the tech evolves quickly.
Just trying to be positive. I truly feel this will add value/interest to these trucks over time. They will not just rot away.
Funny to think the original Lightning SVT 1st gen only lasted 3yrs as well

There's a grant that's hooking my truck to the grid so yeah, at the very worst, it can be a really big battery that feeds the grid and pays me too!

Thinking about this for a day I can see how this could be a nice bridge, especially if its designed with modularity in mind (which Im sure it is). The electric motor technology stays...the inverter technology stays...the battery technology stays (if not reduced). Ford still gets to work on and improve these technologies.

I think it makes sense...they can continue to learn and play in the EV space while opening the market up by adding the generator.

Similar to how people talk about how quickly Iran can build a bomb. Ford will have a really small "breakout" time to build a full BEV again when the time and battery technology is right. They will probably be able to turn on a dime.

So much doom and gloom in this thread…

I get it. I’m disappointed too. But look at the sales figures. Ford is a publicly traded company and can only lose money for so long before they have to do something. It wasn’t as popular as they’d hoped. We’re the vocal minority here on the forum.

I take solace in the fact that the Lightning will continue to live on as an EV. Yes, an EREV is still an EV - not a plug-in hybrid.

Plus, Ford isn’t abandoning EVs… a new BEV truck is coming and the MachE lives on.

We don’t know all the details about what the 2027? 2028? Lightning will be so maybe we should reserve judgement until we have the details?
