So funny. I went with this SR XLT to keep the payments down while gaining experience with an EV. The buy out is way too high at $46k. I didn’t care because I thought the SR would be the deal buster for me. I guess I am in a good spot. Wait the year and see if there are any good deals on a Flash. If not, maybe the lease could be negotiated because they are done with this truck? I think the Ford discontinuation statement actually mentioned them possibly negotiating on leases coming to an end?

I didn't catch that but am interested to see how it plays out. I called a dealer yesterday to ask about getting out of a Lightning lease early and they said "let me speak with the sales manager" and then never called back. I took that as my answer. Lol.

My view is this: there are three kinds of new Lightning "owners". There are the ones who financed and will lose their shirts when they trade in. There are the ones who financed and plan to "keep it forever" and will be hitting eBay and salvage yards for critical parts in less than 10 years and will begin to question their life choices. And then there are the ones who leased and don't care because we're in pretty good condition. But buying used....that's a different animal. If the price is low enough, that could be a good option.

For those who are leasing the biggest decision now is what to do at lease end. Do we give the EREV version a chance? Or do we circle back to the ICE pickups that we KNOW we can keep on the road for decades? Right now I'm leaning toward going back to not only ICE, but an older ICE truck. Something with fewer modules onboard and less spyware. Something I can work on at home and buy parts for at any store in town. That's starting to really look like the best financial decision here.

Update: I just looked it up. Interesting....ALL of these things are beneficial to Ford, NOT the consumer........

As for existing Lightning customers who might be coming off lease or looking or a new Lightning, we are looking at the following:
  • Assist early adopters to purchase or lease a new 25MY Lightning
  • Offering extensions to customers who wish to extend their leases beyond the original term
  • Providing dealer support to help match customer with available inventory

Uh... I know it's not a large % but some people just write a check and pay in full both used and new.

It also left out those who bought and couldn’t care less about a trade in value at some unknown future date...they got what they wanted and that’s that. Or those that have a business and it’s a tax advantage to depreciate a vehicle (sometimes the more the better). Most early adopters of anything are wise enough to know whatever they bought is a bit of a crapshoot… it’s just a bigger gamble on a vehicle

One year into a two year lease. Love this truck, it’s my favorite vehicle of all time. The only complaint is the standard battery. It actually suits my everyday needs just fine, but I still have range anxiety. I drive 50 miles round trip to work every three days. I charge for free at work, but have the free charge station pro at my house just in case. I would like to use the truck for some road trips, but north on I25 is risky with the SR battery.

My plan is to buy a Flash this time next year. That will give me the ER battery and squash my only complaint. This is my first EV and that is why I leased. I wanted to check out an EV without fully committing. Am I crazy to buy one of these in a year? I leased this one really cheap and would obviously love to steal one next year.
If you enjoy it, then it’s not crazy at all. You’ll probably get a really good deal next year too. I agree with getting the larger battery if you want to use the vehicle. more.
