Cold Weather Heat Pump Behavior

I had an interesting charging experience last week and I’m curious what feedback the group has.

Last week on a 14°F day I had a 200 mile trip to complete. After the first 60 miles I went to an Ionna DCFC for a quick charge from 67% to 80%. I entered the charger into the Ford nav so that the truck would precondition, however I never saw the coolant heater pull any power, in fact it was in EQ mode the entire 33 miles leading up to the DCFC. After plugging in I was only getting ~60kw and still no power draw from the coolant heater. It wasn’t until I turned off the trucks HVAC that the coolant heater kicked on to heat the pack which you can see in my charge data.

Is this normal? I feel like I shouldn’t have to shut off HVAC to heat the battery pack.

A while ago recall seeing a warning in cold weather to shut off HVAC to increase battery conditioning while charging my 2022. Less heat going to the cabin benefits the battery, I elected cabin comfort and let the charging process take more time.

It’s just interesting that it’s an issue on a 2025 with max tow pack that’s equipped with two heat pumps.

I'd love to see the complete schematic & pictorial diagrams of the 2025 system.

I'm not certain, but the 2nd compressor might only be for chilling the battery in hot conditions, it's not a bidirectional heatpump.

only one heat pump. The other one is a dedicated compressor for the cooling loop.. not gonna make a difference in cold weather .

Thanks for the info. So cooling x2 but only the one heating system.
