Buddy and I hauled my LS MT2 26HST (hydrostatic) about 20 miles at 35-50-55 mph. The tractor with loader, 5’ brush hog, ballasted rear tires, fully fueled, w/rigging, weighs right at 5,000 lbs. The double axle 16’ steel framed-wood decked trailer weighs ~2,200 lbs empty. Hauling the empty trailer, the truck was estimating kWh burn at 2.2-2.3 mi/kwh. Loaded was 1.5… (probably due to the tractor not being particularly aerodynamic
). I had the electric brake sensitivity set at 5 empty and 8 loaded.
Trailer width at 8’ at fenders gives about 1 foot clearance each side on the one tunnel and one narrow bridge we go through/crossed. As there’s a right hand tunnel gutter that’ll swallow any tire, and the curbs on the bridge would really cause wheel havoc… trailer pullers crowd the triple wide center line(s). The truck’s stability and tightened steering (in tow-haul mode) is rock solid.
We estimated the load‘s center of gravity about 12”-18” in front of the tractors rear tires. as loader + bucket weighs ~1000 and mower ~700.
Probably -800-1000 on the hitch? Truck squat seems appropriate. Next time I’ll go to the transfer stations scales.
Mirrors are barely adequate, I sure miss the tall-wide mirrors on the ’58 F8 5-yard and ‘62 F450 flatbed!
