Infrared pics of heated steering wheel and driver's seat (2024 Lightning Flash)

I recently bought a low-cost handheld infrared camera and decided to see what our heated steering wheel and seat look like. This is a lower-cost model, so the pictures are fairly low resolution and somewhat grainy, but it is still quite interesting to see.

Zoomed out steering wheel. Looks like the power is delivered on the lower right-hand spoke.

Interesting to see that. I don't have a thermal camera, but a friend had a rather nice Flir camera that I have used a few times for similar projects - usually looking at electronic equipment.

Ya, while I was working, at the plant, we had a NICE FLIR for breakers, MCC, Heaters. I brought it home one weekend and on a cool morning scanned the outside of my home, was very interesting to see where the heat was leaking from....

Easy to see why it is that heated seats usually don't last forever. All the flexing cycles from having human butts in and out of the seat all the time eventually breaks one of those elements and then it disables the entire grid.

My only way to get a heated wheel is to just breathe on it in the winter

Yep, pretty much the entire wheel and it heats up very quickly. OK, I'm in southern California so we don't really get COLD, but it sure is nice. First car I have had with a heated wheel and seats.

I was going to swap the heated wheel over on my truck a year or two ago but then got side tracked by some deals the leftover trucks were getting, only to get cold feet.

Are you willing to share what camera you are using? I have been looking for a low cost one to check heat leakage in my house and these images look plenty good enough for that!
