I also found a YouTube video showing the full replacement process, and it can take as little as four minutes. So no, I won’t be paying a $100+ markup on parts, and I definitely won’t be paying $250 in labor for maybe 10 minutes of work. I’m handy enough to handle this project myself, even though it was originally something I was willing to pay to have fixed quickly.

As I mentioned in my post above, while the glass replacement is easy to do it's even easier with two people, one on each side of the door. Good luck!

Update: I found that almost all dealership parts counters are adding substantial markups to the glass. Garnet Ford is listing it at over $1,000 just for the glass alone at the parts counter — shame on them.

I’m starting to feel that the expansive dealership and service center network may not be as much of an advantage as people claim when comparing Ford to newer manufacturers like Rivian, Slate, or Scout.

It was NEVER an advantage, it is an outdated concept designed originally to shift the liability from the automakers but the dealers association became so strong and are in the business of looting as much as they can from the customers. They have no skin in the game, they solely exist to make this process more complicated and expensive.

It is needs to go to the direct sales model.

Ford and all the automakers have an excellent opportunity now to make direct sales only for electric vehicles but I don't think they are interested in that model which is a shame.

That is all kindof funny to be honest. What is interesting is that this characteristic is the same for the ICE f-150s as well, so it can vary by trim but generally the higher spec trims have it as standard equipment. With so many of these trucks being made I agree with you that the cost should be lower.

If made well, an EV should be pretty much maintenance free, so they have to make some after sale money somehow, and it's always in parts it seems.

Some estimate that buying all the parts for a car would cost about 10 times what you'd pay for the car already assembled. I think that is a conservative estimate!

So, I swapped out the glass. I timed the process as I was curious. It took me 3 minutes to remove and replace the glass including taking off the trim and replacing it. Maybe another 4 minutes if you want to add in taking the tools out and putting them back. I give this project a difficulty rating of a 1.5/5.

Yes it always seems to take more time to put away the tools than it takes to fix whatever it was you were working on.

And sometimes it takes an even longer time to find the darn tool you need for the job...and worse case scenario it shows up right after you finish the job using the new tool you went and bought out of frustration!
