Somewhere I thought this was discussed recently but I couldn't find a thread through search. I would like the both side view cameras to come on the main display even when no trailer is attached. I know whatever is connected to the trailer connector has to have enough resistance to get the truck to think a trailer is attached so something like an LED lighted receiver mount such as an American flag won't work. Google Gemini mentioned a Hopkins type light that has an #1157 bulb would work.

A couple cheap options it mentioned was using a 2 watt 100 ohm resister (ordered off Amazon for around 10 bux) wired across the ground prong and the taillight prong of the 7 way or 4 way trailer connector would work if headlights are turned on all the time.

The second option was to go to an auto parts store and get a pack of two 50 watt 2 ohm resistors for around 10 bux that are used to fix turn signal flickering. Then wire one from the trailer connector ground prong and left turn signal prong and wire the other to the ground plug and the right turn signal. I assume having the headlights on shouldn't matter.

I also was advised that trying to mimic a trailer being towed would shut off the backup and cross traffic alerts when backing up.

I have a 7 way trailer plug adapter I could probably wire up like second option but thought I'd ask for other opinions before buying anything. It's not something I would use 24/7 but there are a few situations where I'd like to see along side and behind while turning such as changing lanes on the interstate.

Thanks

If you can't change lanes on the highway without cameras, I would submit that you shouldn't be driving.

The truck has lights in the mirrors telling you that there are vehicles there. If you use BluceCruise, it has lane change. And, you can turn on the bed camera with no overlays with FORScan.

I liked this feature in the Model Y. The difference between knowing "something" is in the blind spot vs seeing what and how fast it's coming is significant. Tricking the truck to activate the cameras seems like a lot of hassle, but can't see why a 4 pin plug with resistance on taillight to ground shouldn't work.

Dude. Why do you have to be so judgmental? Just because he's asking a question about wanting something that would legitimately make driving safer?

You're clearly a valued member of this community, and you offer a lot of positives. And I also see a lot of posts where you criticize people in such a way that could easily make them not want to be a part of this community.

This guy just wants some extra cameras, which absolutely would be nice, having driven cars that have them. If you don't have anything productive to add the conversation, just move along.

Safer? Looking to the center screen to look at camera views, while driving 70mph in traffic, is safer?

Don't agree.

Okay, first you're deflecting from the entire point of my post. You don't have to be a jerk. If you have nothing to add, move along.

Second, come on man, quickly glancing at the center screen would be absolutely no different than glancing at the rear view or side mirrors. Or turning on the AC. Or turning on heated seats. Or literally doing any other number of things that require interaction with the main screen while driving.

So, it’s safer to turn your head all the way around and truly check your blind spot than to quickly glance at the screen? Do you know how peripheral vision works?

Having driven my other vehicles that have the cameras, they’re sorely missed when I drive my Lightning. Trusting the little light on the mirror isn’t reliable based on the speed, size, location of an approaching vehicle. Another oversight, IMO, is Ford provides no audible feedback even when a car is in the blind spot and a turn signal is activated.

typical ford people. It’s always fun when ev people and ford people meet!

I mean, why do we have cameras at all. With that logic, they should disable the backup camera too. If you can't back up your truck without a camera then you shouldn't be driving. Talk about extremism... Either you can do it without or you shouldn't drive. How about Cameras are there to "Aid" or "Assist" to makes things "Safer". Just because I want my camera to turn on when backing up or when I am approaching things or when I turn my signal on, does not mean I don't know how to drive. I've been driving trucks and trailers for decades and know how to drive inside and out. To deny that cameras are excellent safety features is just being an elitist.

I too think Ford is being dumb to have the cameras, and software all in place to show side mirrors but not have them popup during signal changes. Takes a split second to look at my rearview mirror, and then glance at my screen for extra blind spot information, before looking at my side mirror and shoulder check. You don't value that extra information...Great... Don't look at it. As mentioned the hardware is all there and it won't cost you a penny for others to want or have it. Chastising people that want a safety feature by telling them they can't drive is not a good look.

Thanks Bruce for the link. I see that Reese adapter is unavailable on Amazon. My adapter didn't work but I may get the resistors and try it.

Didn't mean to start a controversy here. I liked it when pulling a trailer into tight parking lots, pulling into tight parking stalls, pulling into tight driveways, and while sitting next bike lanes at stop signs and stop lights. It helps to avoid running over curbs, running off the edge of driveway into the ditch, running over kids, and other obstructions sitting next to a driveway entrance, not hitting another vehicle parked catywompass in their parking stall, and when these parking lots with narrow driving lanes that make it impossible to make a complete 90 degree turn into a stall without having to jack around to get it parked straight in a narrow stall. I'm an old fashioned not trust the mirrors and mirror lights kind of guy so I always twisted my head around to look before lane changes, etc. My neck is getting a little stiffer with old age. Also Blue cruise only works on interstate highways and the bulk of my driving is in town or rural roads and highways with all kinds of hazards. Also mirrors don't always tell you when some kid on a bike or motorcycle may have pulled up next to my rear quarter panel. Also I just don't like to change lanes in heavy city traffic until sure I am clear of the vehicle or kid on a bike that is in the lane already. I could probably go on with things I've learned in defensive driving schools and just being a safe driver. A glance at the screen is no different than the other scans on rear view and side mirrors and monitoring speed and warning gauges while driving. Always have to be aware of your surroundings. I've driven enough that those crazy speeders driving a hundred miles an hour swerving around through traffic using 5 lanes just sneak up on me.

Thanks guys.

You didn't start anything! I'd love to get an update here if you get around to trying the resistors.

Bummer, sounded like a good solution for @PJnc284. Regarding the resistor method, I assume you are following this thread from the ICE forum. A note about resistors, if you're using 100 ohm then my quick math says you will need >2 watt resistors (P=V²/R with V=14.4 volts with truck on). In that ICE post, looks like he is using some hefty ones. A previous guy used cheap ones and they burned up ;).

Didn't even use the one i bought much after the initial fun wore off. Sitting in my center console if anyone wants it. $free to anyone near Raleigh or Wilmington NC or in between. May be willing to ship if no one is local.
