Can anyone recommend a mobile battery charger they have just in case the 12V battery in the fronk dies? I have read there are a lot of issues with the 12V battery dying which means the truck is DOA and needs to be towed without a charger available. I'd like to keep one in the truck and not sure if the onboard power from the non-12V battery will be available to power the charger. Suggestions welcome.

Well probably what you want is a 12V jump pack. I know others may disagree but I'm partial to an old-school lead acid one. They can still be had with the reverse polarity protection, but none that I've ever seen have that annoying issue of an automatic timeout that shuts it off right when you might need the boost to jump the car (like what was seen in Kyle's YouTube video with his leaf). Plus they can deliver way more amps so even if you need to start a friend or stranger's gas car or truck, you'll have no problem.

I don't go anywhere without mine and I keep it in the frunk so that even if the battery dies, I can use the key blade to open the driver's door and the manual backup release to open the trunk.

Here's one similar to what I have, complete with added reverse polarity protection:

I believe this will work for you. It's a 12V LiFePO4 battery with a built-in Battery Management System [BMS]. The original battery is also rated at 50AH. I believe the BMS would allow you to direct substitute it for your factory battery.

I probably would use it all the time, but to get you out of a pickle, it should work great. The good thing about LiFePO4 is you can charge them and they stay charge for a very long time.... and they are small and light. So charge it and store it in the Frunk.

You'll have to add adequate jumpers to connect the battery to your existing disconnected cables, but that's easy. Be sure to isolate the ends of your jumpers to keep them from touching.

What does the rest of the group think? Do you think it will work? Why wouldn't it?

I'm going to replace the stock 35Ah AGM with this one, has the battery terminals on the same end like the original just add adapters as shown, and is almost identical in dimensions.

The only caveat to using these type of batteries is temperature, LFP does not like it cold, extreme cold that is, will charge and discharge well below the temps I see down here. They also make them with built in heaters for extreme climates.

I have a solar system for powering my home and I use this brand exclusively. Customer service is top notch! Only had to contact them for a couple of issues which they promptly remedied with other products they make, haven't had any issues with their batteries.
