Hi all,

I am not sure if this is really an issue or not but sometimes I will open the frunk from inside the vehicle, then go get what ever I need and try to close it with the button. When pressing the button nothing happens.

Same thing happens if I open it with the RC and then try to close it with the button.

Today, I tried to open it from the outside button and it did not work. After that I opened it from the inside, closed it and went back to the outside button and this time it did work.

Anyone else has experienced the same situation?

TIA!

yes, periodically I try to open with the exterior button... nothing.

then, try with the inside button... nothing.

strange.

Turn on the truck, both ways work.

Next day - either way works, even with the truck OFF.

strange.

Thanks! I thought it was an issue with mine. Not sure if that button breaks easily and sometimes it just does not make contact at all.

From what I recall from reading the owner's manual three years ago, all of the doors need to be unlocked for the exterior button to work.
When you are trying to use the exterior frunk button, were all of your doors unlocked?

Yes. All doors unlocked and I’ve also tried with car on and off.

I have this issue combined with high rate of discharge from my 12v battery. Turns out water got in the button and was causing a shot. It was replaced under warranty

Very useful information! Thank you!
After replacing it, do you get it to work every single time??
It looks like this is a common issue, hoping they do a recall about it.

I’ve had zero issues since. Not sure how common it is though. I’d say, if there hasn’t been a recall for the shifter, there’s definitely not gonna be a recall for the button.🤣

True! How are you preventing this from happening again?

I posted about this same issue a while back. Didnt get much of a response, so I am glad to see others have now experienced it and worked out solutions.

My external Frunk button switch randomly doesn't work the first time I press it, but if I press it a second time it almost always works. It has been that way since the first day I got it. The inside button has never failed to work on the first push, same with the FOB double-press.

I wondered if it needed to be pressed two times for some reason. I usually only use it for closing the Frunk and use the key FOB for opening. Does not seem to be related to whether the truck doors are locked or not.

I can't say for sure but I suspect humidity/moisture or dust gets inside the switch despite the rubber cover and causes the problem. It is not like it should be worn out already, it does not get pressed over and over like computer keyboard switches do - those keyboard switches seem to be more reliable than the Frunk switch. Quality is is job 1? Hmmmm...

Sealed press switches seem prone to issues. On my old 2001 Ford Ranger, the cruise control switches on the steering wheel got worse and worse as time went by. Eventually the rubber covering tore and fell off exposing the metal parts. I bought a new switch set and had it replaced - I would have done it myself but to do it your had to disassemble the steering wheel and in there was an explosive air bag, so I decided it was not a DIY I wanted to do.

I had the mechanic replace a burned out dash bulb in the fuel tank gauge at the same time - another DIY I decided was too much hassle because shockingly it required removing most of the dash to get to the bulbs. Insanely inconvenient design.

So long story short, yes, I have had the Frunk exterior switch malfunction now and then.

I’ve seen the same two press required on the tailgate. I suspect it happens when the truck goes to sleep. The first press wakes the truck and the second one opens the tailgate. If I’ve been driving and then get out and press the button it will open on the first try but if it’s been parked in the garage for a while and then I go out and try it takes two tries. The other clue is that the first press when it in sleep will turn on the welcome lights.
