I was wondering about the hitch myself. I have a 25' trailer pull that probably wouldn't see the road till next summer for 30 mile trips to the lake with a possible trip up to a couple hundred miles in state.

Another point I didn't think of was charging at the campgrounds. Have all the adapters with my trailer. If I ended up at a non-electrical campsite, I could see myself going begging to the campsites that did have electrical hookups to park and charge as needed. Don't think I would have a problem other than maybe needing some type of 50 amp and a 30 splitter to run a trailer and charge the truck.

What I don't know yet is how much kwh is used if I power a trailer all night at a non-electric campsite powering lights in the evening, etc? Or if it would run the air conditioner on an rv and how much kwh that would take?

Also, has anyone tried to charge off of a gasoline portable generator? I have a new never used 5600 watt generator sitting at the farm. Always went to hookups so I never took it camping. But I'm wondering if I loaded it back of the truck what kind of charge it would do in case I go driving out into the boonies and their are lots of boonies here in Kansas.

As a aside, on the night I bot it and drove it home, I was a little worried so I drove behind a Ford dealer not far from home and plugged into their outlet at the service bay. Just about every car dealer has one by their shop for them and their customers.

You just have to try it out... every camper variation and its onboard equipment combinations are different. However, one trial night (or "day trip" trial) will give You the answer.

We use the 120V connection for the teardrop trailer whose power draw is actually minimal (no A/C). EDIT: we also have a nice Canadian LightLeaf solar panel on the teardrop, which can supply the teardrop for literally weeks.

So we plug only the truck into the NEMA 14-50 , and we do this right away as the 1st step in setting up. By morning and our departure time, the truck is full or nearly so.

There are some threads about generator charging here.

I live in Anthem. The Circle K charger here is expensive, and I have heard people complain that it works sporadically. Since I live here I don’t charge here but I know most of the chargers here are expensive.

One of the drawbacks driving up the 17 is the lack of chargers. Once you hit Flagstaff, there are the EA chargers at Walmart, but little else. Planning is crucial.

Sign up morning of trip, then immediately downgrade, which takes effect in 30 days. Then you don't forget...
So far, I am using the Tesla subscription often enough that it mostly has not been an issue. But good advise for someone who generally does not need it.

Cool report, welcome to the forums! Just a word about the Payson (and Page) Circle K chargers. In my experience at those two, they never work with credit cards, but always work with the Circle K app. YMMV, of course, but I don't even try anymore and just go straight to the app. But it's good to have that all setup in case the EA site is full (which has happened to me!).

All of the AZ Rivian chargers are now open to us, which is great.

I didn’t run a long test, but conservatively 1 KW per hour. If it was really hot out and you went wild with devices and a fridge. I would bet 1 KW per half hour. We just used it for a few hours a day.

The Circle K didn’t like me, even with the app. I will have to try again some time. I’m sure it was some sort of user error.

Thanks for letting me know! Yes the chargers are few in far between. I hear there are plans to build a few more?

It depends on which direction you go once you get to Flagstaff.

Going east on the I-40 for 60 miles takes you to Winslow with both an EA charging station and a Flying J charge station. Soon there will be one at the Mobile on Meteor Crater Rd between Winslow and Flagstaff. There’s a 130 mile gap from Winslow to Gallup, NM before the next compatible DCFC.

Going west on the I-40 for 33 miles gets you an EA and a brand-T charging station. The next DCFC to the west is in Kingman, 147 miles from Flagstaff. There are several charging stations in Kingman. But Ashfork, Seligman, and the Love’s just east of Kingman are supposed to get charging stations…Soon(TM).

If you are heading to Colorado or eastern Utah from Flagstaff, you have a DCFC in Kayenta, 150 miles north-east of Flagstaff. Then another one in Bluff, UT, another 68 miles from Kayenta.

If you’re heading to Lake Powell or central southern Utah, there’s a new Circle K charging station in Page (130 miles). Then nothing until Kanab, UT (another 75 miles).

There’s no DCFC near the North Rim, so we’ve planned stops at the Cliff Dweller’s Lodge in Marble Canyon (Level 2) and an RV campsite in Jacob Lake (Level 2).

Wow. If I get lost Il contact you haha! Great job. It’s good that there are so many in the valley. Other than California, I haven’t traveled to any other states.

Thanks. Guess the best thing would be to try running the rv in the yard with the pickup to see how it does for a day or two.
