Big Sur trip

anyone drive the 1 from morro bay to big sur? I see a Tesla supercharger at 48123 hwy 1 “Ventana”, but it doesn’t show up in Tesla app. probably will have enough range, but it would be nice to have a backup plan. Thanks!

Although I haven't yet done that trip in my Lightning yet (the road has been closed most of the time I've owned it), I have done so in a Mach-E many times. If you charge to 80% at the Morro Bay EA or Los Osos Supercharger, there should be no problem as long as the cliffs haven't slid into the sea again. Monterey is only about 125 miles away, and you should get pretty good mileage on Highway 1 because of the slower speed than on 101. The Supercharger is a nice backup, but we've never needed it.

It's also fun to stop by the gas stations at Ragged Point and Gorda and see what the price is there...

Ventura is the wrong direction by about 135 miles.

The "Vantana Big Sur" Tesla SuperCharger location is Tesla Only according to PlugShare.com. Likely why it did not show up for you on the Tesla App.

Again according to PlugShare.com, that is the only DCFC north of Morro Bay along Hwy 1.
The route is short enough that you should have no problem in an ER truck to get from Morrow Bay to Big Sur and return. Could be close in a SR Lightning, but even that should work. There are quite a few Level 2 charging options along the way.

lol, ventura must’ve been spellcheck run amok. i haven’t had an opportunity to use tesla chargers yet and was kinda looking forward to it.

all in all ER range for up and back is close but not too close. we’re playing with going on to carmel and monterey.

The supercharger at The Big Sur house (the one you listed) is nice. Up on a hill before a fancy restaurant. There's a nice cafe at the bottom of the hill to get a drink and snack. There are some other level 2 chargers at restaurants in the area if planning a longer stop.

In a shocking development (not), Highway 1 is once again closed due to rock slides. Let's hope the damage is minimal (stuff on the road, but the road still there) and we can get back out there soon.

back in 2015 we 'toured' this amazing roadway from Pebble Beach down past the "BIG SIR"< yes sir, thank you much, sir...and down past the HEARST Castle, etc.... in our DIESEL PUSHER motorhome.... the ride of your life! DON'T LOOK DOWN!

yup, road closed….went home early. nice trip anyway, used electrify america +. all good till we stopped at costco in SLO, costco apparently doesn’t use EA+ or offer any membership discount, unless i missed something,? not impressed.

Costco is establishing its own fast charging network, so even though they may look like EA chargers, they are not. And they offer no discount to Costco members.
